A "Great Deal" for Everyone!
Landmarks Great Deals announces a local fundraising opportunity
it's a First - with Annapolis Green!
Annapolis Green and Landmarks Great Deals (LGD) announce a partnership to keep the momentum of Shopping Local going, not only now during the holiday season, but continuing through the cold days of January and February.
Local merchants get terrific exposure via LGD's online, social media and traditional marketing; shoppers get the great deals - some discounts are as deep as 90 percent; and our newly nonprofit Annapolis Green gets a donation when our followers and friends purchase these great deals using the Annapolis Green promo code.
Annapolis Green, long a promoter of living, working and playing sustainably in this area via our website and "in-person social networking" Green Drinks events, will soon become a non-profit entity. This will allow us to take our work to the next level by raising funds for projects that will benefit the greater Annapolis area, both environmentally and economically.
The partnership with LGD is a great way the community can help Annapolis Green do its good work!
So here's how it works
Annapolis Green supporters go to LGD's website, landmarksgreatdeals.com, to see Today's Deal. If it appeals to you, click on Buy Now or Buy it for a Friend. That will take you to the purchase page. The deals can be anything from discounts at restaurants, hair salons, retail stores and more.
Here's the important part: In the Donation Code box, type in 1dd2da. That will attach your purchase to us and Annapolis Green will receive a donation from Landmarks! The rest is self-explanatory.
We'll soon have a widget on the Annapolis Green website that will make the process even easier and will highlight the daily deals. Also, you can open an account and subscribe to LGD so you won't miss a thing.
Why are we doing this?
Landmarks Great Deals' goal is to compete with the big discounters such as Groupon to keep our shopping dollars local, right here in our area. This benefits our economy and every one of us. Since LGD is a 23-year old local company with some real roots in this market (and the other guys aren't), they have great relationships with in the community and continually come up with the best offers of any of the current deal sites.
As another way to giving back to the community LGD is donating a portion of its profits to worthy groups like ours - and we're the first!
Annapolis Green, as a non-profit, has a lot of work ahead promoting environmental initiatives and projects so we are exploring many fundraising opportunities. We are happy to be a partner of Landmarks Great Deals.
Part of sustainability is supporting our own - because without our locally owned, independent businesses, well, Annapolis just wouldn't be Annapolis!
Sign up at Green Drinks ... encourage your friends too, so we can tap you in for more fun and savings (at your leisure) in the New Year! Rumor has it ... there will be bonus dollars handed out for all those signing up at Green Drinks!

 | Thursday, December 8
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Maryland Inn Top of Main Street, on the circle Free. Cash bar. No RSVP needed. |
Begin your Midnight Madness with Green Drinks!
Hosted by Historic Inns of Annapolis, we are taking over the first floor of the historic Maryland Inn -- lobby, ballroom -- complete with decorations and cozy fires in real fireplaces!
The cash bar will include organic wines and local beer along with mixed drinks. They'll be treating us to complimentary coffee and tea and generous appetizers, including a potato bar (!) Read more on our website. The inn will be showing off their very own "greening" initiatives as well.
Outside, the holiday merriment will be augmented by performances by the Wiley H. Bates Performing Arts Chorus. Inside, local musician Mike Ruocco will entertain us. He is the Singer/Songwriter for the bands Cinder Road and SR-71. Read about Mike at www.mikeruocco.com. What a treat! We're going to be at the perfect location -- at the top of Main Street -- from which to head out into the night and be part of the very special social and community experience that is Midnight Madness. Come shop until midnight, enjoy the merchants' hospitality, hear music and carolers on the street, and just enjoy our town. Midnight Madness includes Main Street, Inner West Street, and Maryland Avenue. The performance schedule is on the Annapolis Business Association's Facebook page.
Historic Inns will be giving us Green Drinkers a 10% discount for dinner at the Treaty of Paris on Midnight Madness nights - 8th and 15th! There's no more cozy a holiday setting than Treaty with its history, brick walls, roaring fire, you get the picture.

It's incredibly important to shop local and support our economy. For every $100 spent at a locally owned business, $45 goes back into the economy. The same $100 spent at a chain store leaves only $14 in the local economy. Click here to learn more. Local businesses: it's part of what makes Annapolis, Annapolis!

Stormwater Legislation Action Report
About 30 people turned out on Monday night to testify in favor of Bill 79-11, Stormwater Restoration Fund legislation introduced by Anne Arundel County Council members Chris Trumbauer and Dick Ladd. Watershed Stewards, the local Homebuilders Association, commercial builders, persons who have gotten sick from contact with the water, and watershed groups all supported passage of a $35 a year fee to create a dedicated fund to restore our waterways. The Council voted to hold the bill until the next session after several questions were raised about State plans to raise the "flush fee" and what impact that increase might have on businesses and individuals.
There will not be a hearing on December 19th, but if the bill is amended there will be another hearing in January. Keaghan Muller, the South Riverkeeper's young son, got the Council's attention when he said, "I would like to proclaim that it is not fair that the stormwater runoff is destroying our resources like in the South River. We have dirty water and cancerous catfish. We must pay our share so that future kids can have clean water."
