Moving Planet: Charging Forward for Maryland Offshore Wind Power
Rolling Rally for Climate Solutions
Saturday, Sept. 24
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Clean Currents and Bike Maryland will promote efforts to develop the state's offshore wind energy resources with the very first "rolling rally" to hit the streets of Annapolis.
The purpose is to illustrate to Annapolis legislators that there is support for offshore wind energy in Maryland. Speakers will include Senate Majority Leader Rob Garagiola, Jim Strong of the United Steelworkers of Maryland and Dave Goodrich, the former head of the NOAA climate observation unit who earlier this year biked across the country to spread awareness of climate change.
This is part of a global day of climate action called "Moving Planet." Join the rolling rally of bikes, skateboards, strollers and more, taking the "people-powered movement" to State Circle, to a theatrical bill signing and the final assemblage of miniature wind turbines by workers on the water. To learn more and register and join on your bike or other people-powered vehicle click here. It will be fun for a great cause!

Top of the Line
Thanks to our Friends at Quiet Waters for an educational evening
"Environmental Education
Makes Good Green Neighbors"
A beautiful night, a beautiful setting, following the groundbreaking for the Butterfly and Reading Garden Watershed Education Experience, dedicated by the Friends of Quiet Waters Park and the Garrett's Light Foundation. We took over the Visitors' Center with our crowd and eco-exhibits.
With support from Anne Arundel County's Recreation & Parks Department, and their wonderful on-site caterer at Quiet Waters, we ate, drank and learned about the great resources our area has for children -- young and old. Yes, that means us too!
Our event was sponsored by Clean Currents, our own wind energy supplier. Clean Currents has initiated the The Green Neighborhood Challenge, a program for communities to get involved in clean energy, to do fund raising, and to help build an environmental movement. Clean Currents can help your community with these efforts by providing resources, hosting educational events, and promoting your group or organization. The goal of their Green Neighborhood Challenge is to support the efforts of community groups that are actively "greening" their neighborhoods. Based upon each group's level of involvement, Clean Currents will donate money back to each group to go toward financing a "greening project" of their choice. Read more. And, if you sign up and mention Annapolis Green, $25 goes to us!
In keeping with our theme, we had a number of exhibitors who were on hand to tell us about the environmental education they conduct in our community. They included the following:

Don't forget: They cater!

Special thanks to Marla George and her staff for the sustainable appetizers and to Katcef for for the Landshark, Becks Oktoberfest and Bud Light.
There's more info about our event on our website. Click here.
Stay tuned for our next event at the Fleet Reserve Club on October 20.
Let's show our great green support next Thursday to our partners, the Annapolis Economic Development Corporation, as they host an open house at their new digs at Westgate Circle. Read more below and check out the green roof.
And this Saturday, there's a great beer event to benefit the Scenic Rivers Land Trust. Read more below!
Yikes, it's fall. We can't believe we're wearing socks!
