A Screening of Jobson Production's "Energy on Trial"
Wednesday, May 25 6:30 p.m.
"Energy on Trial" is a documentary film that focuses on the cost, efficiency, environmental impact, and future of the force that drives our civilization. In a refreshingly objective, straightforward manner, the film addresses what has become a complex, global conundrum, and a political hot potato.
The film addresses the energy source groups one by one, presenting the pros and cons of each. Along the way, an impressive array of experts from the scientific, academic, political, and business communities is heard from. "Energy on Trial" concludes that while we will require all forms of energy to meet the huge demands of a growing population, and new elements like electric vehicles, the role of new nuclear power must be augmented to shoulder the immense base load we require. And that must be done quickly. As one scientist put it, "The environment can't wait."
The unmistakable secondary message of "Energy on Trial" is this: get involved. Learning about energy will help all of us make well-considered decisions about power for our local communities, and for a successful, national energy policy. Parking will be available in Garage E. This is a FREE event with FREE parking. Light snacks and soft drinks will be served. Due to limited space, we ask that anyone who wants to attend sign up online. Location: 6:30 p.m., Doordan Institute, The John & Cathy Belcher Conference Center, Anne Arundel Medical Center Health Sciences Pavillion, 7th floor. Click for information & to reserve as seat

Greenline
| We had a terrific outdoor Green Drinks at Sam's on the Waterfront on May 12th. This Green Drinks was our Green/Blue event as we highlighted our area's passion: boating and all that goes with it. While we had a great line up of folks to share information about a number of Green Boating programs, products and services that cover the many aspects of living green while you're out on the water ... the star of the show was the Greenline, the first production hybrid solar yacht. Annapolis Yacht Sales' Garth Hitchens brought the Greenline to our event. She was tied up along side and Garth and his folks were kind enough to give tours aboard during the course of the evening. Click here for more info.
Thank you to our event sponsor, Womanship, the sailing school for women. Read more about Womanship at the left. As you know, we do our best to highlight the Green initiatives of our venues, or to nudge those who are just beginning their sustainability journey to step it up. There's no need for nudging at Sam's! Read about Sam's Green initiatives on our website.
We'd like to thank the following supporters who made our event a success by providing information about Green Boating. - Donna Morrow, executive director of the State of Maryland's Clean Marinas, program and the Maryland Clean Boater Program. See her story in the March issue of SpinSheet entitled "What Sailors Can Do to Keep it Clean." Have a look.
- Robin Allison of West Marine who provided a wealth of green cleaning and maintenance products for boats, as a display and as raffle prizes for us. Learn all about West Marine's BlueFuture program.
- BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water. See their 21 Simple Steps to Cleaner Boating and read more.
- The Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Boaters for the Bay website has loads of information to help us be responsible boaters. Read more. Heather Tuckfield was at our event to talk to boaters about CBF's Boaters for the Bay pledge through which you can show your support for a clean and healthy Bay.
- For anglers: Joe Evans of DNR talked about the Careful Catch program and about the work of one of its founding partners, the Coastal Conservation Association of Maryland.
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers too!
Read below about our next Green Drinks, and save the date: Tuesday, June 21.
Cheers! Lynne & Elvia

June Green Drinks Annapolis
SUSTAINABLE SUMMER SOLSTICE ON THE SOUTH
Sustainable Landscaping is beautiful.
Tuesday, June 21
5:30-7:30 p.m. Historic London Town and Gardens 839 Londontown Road, Edgewater
Come see what Historic London Town is doing to promote Sustainable Landscaping. Walk through the magnificent gardens and rain ponds and taste great nibbles from Chef Zachary Pope of Roundz Catering while enjoying beer and wine. Then stay for the Summer Solstice concert featuring the soothing dulcimer of Maggie Sansone and company. If the name sounds familiar it's because we enjoyed her music aboard the Richard Lee at our SERC event in April. Maggie and Company will play Celtic harp, fiddle, Irish flute and more. Maggie's music is ancient, infectious and so compelling, it is the perfect for late spring.
Green Drinkers who stay for the concert get $10 off the price of admission, paying only $5! Food, wine and beverages will be available for purchase. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are sold at the door; kids under 12 admitted free. Directions.

Owned by Anne Arundel County and operated by the London Town Foundation, the 23-acre museum and park features history, archaeology, and horticulture. Explore the Historic Area, which includes the circa 1760 William Brown House, a National Historic Landmark, reconstructed colonial buildings, and an-going archaeological investigation in search of the "lost town" of London. Wander the eight-acre Woodland Garden of native plants and exotic species arranged along a one-mile trail before enjoying the seasonal Ornamental Gardens overlooking the South River.

At the Chesapeake Bay Trust, we believe that a heightened ethic of individual and community stewardship is essential to restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay. We also believe in the power of examples to inspire and heighten the practice of environmental stewardship. The Trust's goal is to increase stewardship through grant programs, special initiatives, and partnerships that support environmental education, on-the-ground restoration, and community engagement activities.
The Chesapeake Bay Trust is an independent, nonprofit grant-making organization chartered in 1985 by the Maryland General Assembly to engage the public in the protection and restoration of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers and streams. Funding provided by the Trust sparks on-the-ground change in communities throughout Maryland and works to cultivate a new generation of Bay stewards. The Trust receives approximately $4 million in contributions annually and reinvests those dollars through a variety of grant programs in community-led projects that reach each of Maryland's 23 counties and Baltimore City. In its first year, the Trust funded just 10 grants. Since then, through aggressive growth of our expertise, capacity, and funding, the Trust has received over 10,000 grant requests, awarding over $34 million to support environmental education and habitat restoration projects that have measurable impacts on the environment and that actively engage citizens in Bay and river restoration efforts.
