It's our Green Boating Event!

Thursday, May 12

5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Sam's on the Waterfront, Chesapeake Harbour

We're looking forward to a terrific outdoor Green Drinks at Sam's on the Waterfront this Thursday. The weather promises to be glorious! (Directions) This is going to be our Green/Blue event as we highlight our area's passion: boating and all that goes with it. We have a great line up of folks to share a number of programs, products and services that cover the many aspects of living green while you're out on the water ... hanging out at the dock, fishing, sailing, paddling or power cruising! Read all about it on our website.

About Sam's Green initiatives:

We continually strive to become more green. As you are aware, we were the first restaurant in Anne Arundel County to obtain a green certificate. All of our to-go supplies, chemicals, and office supplies are enviromentally friendly. We source a majority of our food from local vendors and we are begininng to grow our own herbs in house.

And here's what Sam's will offer us Thursday evening in addition to tasty, sustainable appetizers, and 10% off to Green Drinkers who stay for dinner!

Two "green drinks"
1. Gin And Jam - made with local Rhubarb Lemongrass and Catoctin Gin (local great Distiller)
2. Rosey Palmer - Catoctin Rye, Meyer lemon and home grown Rosemary

Greenline

Annapolis Yacht Sales will bring the Greenline, the first production hybrid solar yacht, to our event. The boat has a 1.3kW solar roof and a hybrid drive. She's ready for her close-up, having sold 100 hulls in her first year. Come and see!

The State of Maryland recognizes its environmentally friendly marinas as Clean Marinas, and Chesapeake Harbour is one. The Maryland Clean Boater Program is an outgrowth of the Maryland Clean Marina Initiative, and seeks to involve boaters in protecting Maryland's waterways. We'll have info about that as well. By the way, the Clean Marina Initiative''s director, Donna Morrow, has a story in the March issue of Spinsheet entitled "What Sailors Can Do to Keep it Clean."  Have a look.

West Marine will provide info on its BlueFuture program that introduces Earth-friendly products and reduce packaging -- all working toward a focus on sustainability. Learn all about it. And thank you to West Marine for a basket of clean, green boating supplies for our raffle

We'll have info on BoatU.S. Foundation's environmental education and outreach program for Boating Safety and Clean Water. It helps boaters, anglers, and other user groups understand how they can be better stewards of the natural resources they enjoy by sharing practical ideas, proven best practices, and info on laws and regulations. See their 21 Simple Steps to Cleaner Boating and read more.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Boaters for the Bay website has loads of information to help us be responsible boaters. Read more. Sign the Boaters for the Bay pledge and show your support for a clean and healthy Bay!

For anglers: Catch & release fishing has proven to be a valuable conservation tool, but the effectiveness is diminished if fish do not survive after being released. By adopting just a few simple habits, recreational anglers can increase the chances that the fish they catch and release will survive -- and that's sustainability. We'll have information about the Careful Catch  program for you and about the work of one of its founding partners, the Coastal Conservation Association of Maryland.

Want to refurbish or replace your dock without tropical rain forest lumber? We'll have info from Dock & Deck Resurfacing, a certified installer of UDF-21™ Composite wood coatings. The product is environmentally friendly by preventing wood preservatives from leaching into the environment.

Bring your friends! Facebook and Tweet our event! Help us get the word out. Don't forget that Forest Drive traffic can be clogged in the evening. Leave plenty of time to get there. There is ample free parking. Just tell the gate guard you are going to Sam's and you'll get a parking pass.

Don't forget your name tag, if you have one. And if you want to volunteer as a Green Drinks greeter, just send Lynne an email. We can use your help!

See you Thursday!

Be sure to read the information below about our fundraiser aboard the USS Sequoia, the former Presidential yacht. This is a fabulous opportunity to cruise aboard a piece of history. Read more below.
