Top of the Line

SAIL. POWER. PADDLE. FISH. GREENLY.
Thursday, May 12
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Sam's on the Waterfront, Chesapeake Harbour

We're looking forward to a terrific outdoor Green Drinks at Sam's on the Waterfront next week. (Directions) This is going to be our Green/Blue event as we highlight our area's passion: boating and all that goes with it. We have a great line up of folks to share a number of programs, products and services that cover the many aspects of living green while you're out on the water ... hanging out at the dock, fishing, sailing, paddling or power cruising!

Greenline
| First, Annapolis Yacht Sales will bring the Greenline, the first hybrid solar yacht, that we know of, to our event. The boat has a 1.3kW solar roof and a hybrid drive. She's ready for her close-up. Come and see!
West Marine has started BlueFuture, a program to introduce Earth-friendly products and reduce packaging -- all working toward a focus on sustainability. Learn all about it. Through environmental education and outreach, the BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water helps boaters, anglers, and other user groups understand how they can be better stewards of the natural resources they enjoy by sharing practical ideas, proven best practices, and info on laws and regulations. See their 21 Simple Steps to Cleaner Boating and read more.
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Boaters for the Bay website has loads of information to help us be responsible boaters. Read more. Sign the Boaters for the Bay pledge and show your support for a clean and healthy Bay!
For anglers: Catch & release fishing has proven to be a valuable conservation tool, but the effectiveness is diminished if fish do not survive after being released. By adopting just a few simple habits, recreational anglers can increase the chances that the fish they catch and release will survive -- and that's sustainability. We'll have information about the Careful Catch program for you and about the work of one of its founding partners, the Coastal Conservation Association of Maryland.
The State of Maryland recognizes its environmentally friendly marinas as Clean Marinas, and Chesapeake Harbour is one. We'll have info about that as well. Read more.
This is just a teaser about our May 12 event. We'll have more details for you shortly. Be sure to save the date! By the way, you know that we do try to make our events as green as possible. We are happy to report that during our event at SERC last month aboard the Richard Lee, our hosts were very green. When all was said and done, Captains VKs and Mike had only ˝ container of trash versus six container of recycling!. The leftover food scraps provided food for VK's chickens too. Aboard and on the dock we used five cases of glass wine glasses that were later loaded into VK's dishwasher. Had we used plastic, that would have created a lot of waste. And last, our wonderful good green caterers, A Cook's Cafe, My Butcher and More, Herrington by the Bay and Palate Pleasers provided their goodies in recyclable or reusable containers! Hooray for us! Be sure to read the information below about our fundraiser aboard the USS Sequoia, the former Presidential yacht. This is a fabulous opportunity to cruise aboard a piece of history. Read more below. See you next week! Lynne & Elvia
