NOTE: If the federal government is closed down on April 14, we will have a Plan B. Please watch your email and our website for updates.
In celebration of April's Earth Day, we are getting as close to the Bay as we can, offering both dockside and onboard experiences as we get better acquainted with our amazing neighbor: the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC).
Our event is a fundraiser
for SERC's Education Programs
The SERC Education Department hosts over 8,000 school children a year on educational field trips, and sees nearly that number of visitors and members of the public coming for programs or to hike its trails, use the canoe trail, or visit the site. The programs offered include home school, pre-k, group programs onsite and offsite, citizen science, distance learning, teacher trainings, global initiatives, and more.
Thursday, April 14
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
SERC, 647 Contees Wharf Road, Edgewater
Yes, we know this is a bit different, but very appropriate! The cruise portion of our event will be a bit stepped up -- including live music by -- to lure you to join us aboard the charming Richard Lee. You'll enjoy our regular fare of appetizers and cash bar either way -- on land or aboard.
We will have some tasty munchies for you, thanks to:

Starting with our gathering at the SERC docks from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., SERC director Tuck Hines will tell us about the marvelous global work done by this local treasure right in our backyard. And SERC is providing an amazing example to all right on its campus with its solar electric shuttle, pervious walkways, a solar panel array and more.
Then you'll have the option of boarding the Richard Lee to see and learn more about SERC from the water as we cruise the lovely Rhode River for about an hour enjoying appetizers, cash bar and soothing live music by Celtic hammered dulcimer virtuoso Maggie Sansone. You're used to our events being free, but in this case we have to charge for the boat ride, so our hosts can cover the cost of running the vessel. Thank you so much to Captains VK Holtzendorf and Mike Shay for their hospitality!

Don't be left at the dock! The boat has a limited capacity so buy your tickets now! Then, raise a glass with us to our beautiful Bay and its future -- with the help of SERC!
Click here to buy your cruise tickets - just $25.
Don't forget to bring your name badges and your own glass, if you can. That helps us and the environment by reducing the number of disposable cups.
We want a great, sunny day for our event, the "SERC du Soleil," so do a sun dance! (Lynne couldn't resist the pun.)
We hope to see you next week!
