Top of the Line

Once again, a memorable night "in the Garden!" Thank you to Homestead Gardens for hosting our Green Drinks event on March 16,

EAT. DRINK. PLANT. GROW.

The day before St. Pat's we put on our triple green -- eco, spring, and Irish -- and went back to the garden for what has become our yearly spring event. After a dreary winter it was wonderful to be surrounded by flowers and to get our sustainable gardening wits about us again! And what a great prelude to the wearin' of the Irish green the next day. Read a recap of the event on our website.

Our event was held right in the middle of Homestead's 2011 Garden Show, Mediterranean Retreat. We hope you picked up a Green Drinks discount coupon from our gracious hosts. It's good until March 31!

The event was put together with the assistance of one of our email sponsors, Sharon New, of Local Food Beat. Check out her website for classes, interesting articles and more.

Thank you to Mills Fine Wine and Spirits and the Benziger Family Winery for their expertise and range of wonderful organically grown grapes and terrific wines. And, another reminder: The wines poured are being offered to Green Drinkers at Mill's with discounted prices until the end of the month! Just ask!

Thank you to Katcef Brothers for the beer, including Land Shark Lager.

We were treated with some of the most delicious food we've ever tasted, from:

We were delighted to have a number of exhibitors providing information about, guess what? PLANT. GROW. EAT. DRINK.

Thank you to our volunteers. Without them, all these details simply wouldn't happen! And, thank you to all who brought their own glasses!

Now from the Garden to the Bay ...

As we did our walk through Friday at SERC, we got a special treat with Maryland Day activities in full swing. So much history and future discoveries are underway.  We truly are in for a wonderful time as we celebrate Earth Day and the Bay in April.

Get to know the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC)
and cruise aboard the M/V Richard Lee

Our event is a fundraiser for SERC

Thursday, April 14
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

SERC, 647 Contees Wharf Road, Edgewater

We've got lots of great plans for this event, including our usual appetizers and cash bar beverages, live music and more. This will be different because we'll offer you the opportunity to learn about SERC from the water as well, aboard the lovely and comfortable Richard Lee. You're used to our events being free, but in this case we have to charge for the boat ride, so our hosts can cover the cost of running the vessel. The boat has a limited capacity so plan now to attend so you won't be left out.

More info to come soon!

Upcoming Consults with Local Food Beat

Specials for Green Drinkers

Sharon New, owner and creator of Local Food Beat, is offering a choice of two consultations for Green Drink members at greatly reduced price.

The first option is a Pantry Raid: Sharon will go through your pantry and recommend the healthful oils and other foods to begin cooking with and why. She will also share with you where to find local sources of nutrient dense foods and grass-fed products including a review of the benefits of Omega 3s and which foods can help reduce inflammation. This is normally a $175 value for 3 hours, but for Green Drinkers is only $100.

The second option is a Whole Foods Tour: Join Sharon as she takes you on a highly informative tour of the Annapolis Whole Foods store. She'll show you what she buys and why, what not to buy, how to read labels, a review of the supplement aisle, how to find grass-fed products (dairy and beef), and give you many useful tips that you can apply wherever you shop. This is normally $55 for 90 minutes, but for Green Drinkers is only $35.  Limited to 5 and it is scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m.

Please email sharonb51@hotmail.com if you would like to sign up for either consult.
