Top of the Line
December Green Drinks at Level We celebrated the season, kicked off Midnight Madness & encouraged all to Eat (and drink) Well by Eating Local this Holiday Season!

Level: A Small Plates Lounge once again packed in our Green Drinking crowd despite a busy and high demand night. We thank the crew for their eco-friendly hospitality ... fabulous handcrafted cocktails and locally sourced appetizers. And, we hope you were able to enjoy in the special espresso-tini bar, courtesy of our friends at Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company.
We gave away some terrific raffle prizes. First, thank you to Local Food Beat's Sharon New, a food and health educator, for her prize of a 90-minute consultation and a seat in her class, "Politically Incorrect Nutrition." Check out her website and Facebook Page. Second, thank you to Level and Sly Fox Tavern for their gift certificates. And finally, a big thanks to Chesapeake Roasting Company for cannisters of their top selling beans ... and their new stronger brew Cattail Espresso!
Each month Green Drinks Annapolis keeps to our goal of rotating locations ... and sustainable spots always a priority. It's our great dilemma that because our numbers have grown, it is a challenge to find a venue can accommodate us. We are typically at sites on their "off" nights bringing in a crowd they might otherwise not have. So, here's a toast to our friends at Level for welcoming us on an "on," prime time eve.
As our numbers have grown we are finding it challenging to communicate our messages and other information to our busy eco-socializers! So look for a different form of communication next month, when our theme will be bringing alternative energy to our homes and businesses.
You know we are all about supporting local businesses, so don't forget that Thursday, Dec. 9 is Midnight Madness Two! Bundle up and step out to shops along Main Street, Randall Street, Upper West Street and Maryland Avenue to rejoice in the season. Retail shops will remain open until the stroke of midnight and many offer hospitality in form of food and drink. It's loads of fun and a uniquely Annapolis event! ~ Details ~ And don't forget to visit Mary & Blanche and Vivo! for special Green Drinks deals, and shop with us online. See below.

Last week was the 8th Annual Buy Local Week (Nov. 26-Dec. 5) but for us it's every week. Does it really matter where you shop? Yes! Click here to read what the Annapolis Sustainable Business Alliance has to say about buying local versus big-box stores and out-of-town chain stores.
And speaking of encouraging businesses to operate in an Earth-friendly way, we have created your own Green Drinks calling cards that YOU can leave at local businesses to let them know that your patronage is due to their "greenness" or that you won't if they don't make some effort to "green up." If you didn't get yours at the last Green Drinks you can download them here. Front | Back. These work well with Avery Business Cards #8877. Be sure to support our November Green Marketplace local vendors & think Green for Holiday Gifts...

It's Time for Wind Power in Maryland: Get Involved!
Last Saturday over 300 people showed up at the Wind Vision 2010 Maryland Citizens' Conference on Offshore Wind Power, organized by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network and supported by the National Wildlife Federation, Environment Maryland, Sierra Club, Maryland League of Conservation Voters, and United Steelworkers. Environmental and labor groups will be lobbying the Maryland General Assembly before and during the legislative session that opens on January 12 to pass a wind energy bill in 2011. This would be good news for the environment and for jobs.
The push is for a bill in 2011 to require the Public Service Commission to direct public utilities to enter into long-term contracts for offshore wind power. A 25-year contract, that satisfies a modest portion of each large electricity supplier's current total power supply with offshore wind power, would lock in stable energy rates over that period and create much-needed jobs for the construction, operation, and maintenance of offshore windmills.
Offshore wind power could supply up to one-third of the Mid-Atlantic states' electric load with ZERO emissions, creating thousands of jobs while locking in stable electricity rates. Want to learn more and get involved? Click here.
