Start Thinking Green for Holiday Gifts

Weems & Plath wants Green Drinkers to know that they are doing their part to be environmental stewards in Annapolis. For every buyer who mentions Green Drinks while shopping for great gift items for both the boater and gardener in the family at W&P's Tent Sale, they will give 5% of that sale to Annapolis Green/Green Drinks Annapolis!

The Boat Show tent sale runs Oct. 7-15.

Enjoy huge savings on discontinued, overstock & sample merchandise. Many fine navigation tools, clocks, barometers, oil lamps, rain gauges, binoculars, books, thermometers, compasses & much more for your boat, home or office.

W&P also is donating 10% of their proceeds from Saturday, October 9th to the Annapolis Maritime Museum!

The tent sale will be held at W&P's Eastport location, 214 Eastern Avenue. Please support this local company, which is a brand new Certified Annapolis Environmental Steward ... and hop a ride over from the Boat Shows on the W&P eCruisers shuttle! Read more.

Seafood Watch
What Your Order
Does Matter

Got an iPhone? Now you can make sustainable seafood choices quickly and easily-whether you're eating at your favorite restaurant or shopping for dinner. And at a time when the world's oceans are severely overfished, your seafood choices make a big difference. We have provided you a wallet-size card with this info at past Green Drinks. Now it's easier to carry. Read more about the Monterey Acquarium's Seafood Watch app and download.

Top of the Line

Thankfully, these days we are hearing more and more about local Greening efforts -- a meeting, a conference, and more. For example, the recent Annapolis Striders 10 Miler Race and the Maryland Seafood Festival.  But, how did they do? Did they accomplish their goals? What lessons were learned? How did they benchmark and measure?

If you Green an event, tell us not only that you are doing so, but tell us how it went so we can help get the word out. We hope that this news will inspire and encourage more events to do the same.

Don't hesitate to send us your comments on our emails.

Maryland Seafood Festival

This year's Maryland Seafood Festival fully committed to going Green just a couple weeks before the event. With the help of Greener Results Consulting and their "green event sponsors" they truly "dove in" making this year's event as eco-friendly as possible within a the short planning window. The Seafood Festival topped attendance records this year and, we hope, along the way demonstrated to attendees and vendors the committment to celebrating seafood and the Chesapeake Bay in a sustainable way! The group piloted a website that not only communicated their eco-efforts, but also was a call for sponsorships. And now, it is in the process of being updated to report  accomplishments and thank all those responsible for their success.  Have a look!

Greening the The Annapolis Ten Miler

The Annapolis Striders did a great job planning for and making this popular annual foot race as Green as possible this year. They can be very proud of their efforts. Among their successes are:

1.    60-75% reduction in waste
2.    5000 reclaimed sneakers delivered to NIKE
3.    500 gently used shoes donated to needy families
4.    Raised awareness
5.    A few dozen fewer vehicle trips
6.    Positive attention for our beautiful city (EPA officials, local environmental groups, politicians and several media sources)
7.    Raised awareness in the running community!
