Thank you to
... for a memorable night and to Severn Savings for sharing in the evening's offerings as well as inviting us to tour their Green Roof.
Spoiled doesn't even come close. We took over every inch of the restaurant -- it was fun to spread out in the patio, bar, private meeting room and restaurant dining area! The wonderfully diverse crowd, learning and enjoying, never ceases to amaze us.
Living Local, that is the Wild Orchid's tag line and indeed their commitment. They told us all about it and put out an incredible and delicious appetizer buffet for us. The Wild Orchid explained the intricacies of their commitment to sustainable living -- not only in their menus but in their authentic lifestyles. Here's what they say: "We feel lucky to be local owners, neighbors (we live .6 miles from our business), local vendors and local retailers. We live the local life."
Thank you also to Mike Smollon of My Butcher & More for providing incredibly tasty beef from Roseda Black Angus Farm, Monkton, Md. (The store is at the Clock Tower center on Forest Drive). Please support this growing local small business.
To add to the fabulous appetizers, Severn Bank sponsored a table of Sweet Treats prepared specially for Green Drinks by the Wild Orchid. Out on the patio, we tasted organic wines by Mondo Vino. Thank you to Kim Mallory for introducing us to these wines and for the tasting notes.
City of Annapolis Environmental official Maria Broadbent presented both The Wild Orchid and My Butcher & More with Sustainable Annapolis Environmental Stewardship Certifications during our event. Read more about the program.
Severn Green Roof -- Severn Savings Bank provided Green Drinkers with an opportunity to see its eco-friendly Green Roof that captures and absorbs runoff water that would typically challenge our infrastructures and pollute our waterways. It is the largest commercial Green Roof within city limits and it looked lovely. Read more. As a special treat, Certified Green Roof Expert and local landscaper Matt Ciminelli gave a talk about Green Roofs in general and answered questions about how they are designed and built. And the backdrop was a beautiful lavender sunset sky.
The Wild Orchid generously provided a gift certificate for dinner for two for our raffle, which was won by Laura Carlisle. Severn Bank also provided raffle prizes and giveaways for Green Drinkers and we thank them for that too.
These businesses all supported Green Drinks and made our event a success, so let's support them. Shop local, shop Green Drinks supporters!
Don't miss our next Green Drinks, Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Yellowfin in Edgewater. It's just a few miles south on Route 2 and there is plenty of parking.

What is Green Drinks?
Green Drinks is a monthly get-together that gives the environmentally minded a chance to get to know one another in a fun, informal way facilitating connections and working together for a common cause: The Health of the Chesapeake Bay. We are apart of an amazing international group, greendrinks.org, with over 600 like us all around the world. Of course, we think our Annapolis crew is the best! Try visiting other groups while you're on the road. And, it's truly not about the drinks ... those who don't drink alcoholic beverages are welcome too! |
