June Green Drinks Annapolis
This Tuesday, June 8 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. 143 Compromise Street
A night under the stars ... that's our June program ... a fun and exciting evening downtown at the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre. The Theatre's Board (all volunteers) is looking forward to showing off its renovation as it opens its 45th season. After three years of planning and fundraising, the first part of the renovation began in March and it has some Green features including Geothermal heating and air conditioning. The Theatre has implemented recyling and the use of reusable water bottles as well as use of recycled or reclaimed materials as much as possible. Not only will we be hearing about the new Green renovations at the Theatre, but also taking a sustainable look at
entertainment along with a few teasers to make sure we return for a show
this summer. And speaking of the shows, the Theatre will offer our Green
Drinkers a special $8 discount on tickets to its next show, The
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, running June 24 - July 25, if
we buy our tickets during our Green Drinks event. Our evening also will be a joint event with Maryland Life Magazine, helping them "launch" their May/June issue that contains an article on Green Drinks, "Raise a Glass to Green." Read it. Thank you to the Kona Brewing Company for providing Kona Longboard Island Lager, a smooth refreshing lager fermented and aged for five weeks at cold temperatures to yield its exceptionally smooth flavor. A delicate, slightly spicy hop aroma complements the malty body of this beer. Based in Hawaii, the company has a commendable environmental ethic. An integral component of Kona Brewing Company's business plan is to grow the business with ecological integrity, reducing the company's carbon footprint whenever possible. By producing its bottled beer and mainland draft beer on the mainland, close to markets, Kona Brewing Company has dramatically reduced its reliance upon transportation fuel for raw materials, packaging and distribution. Read all about it.
Our wines will include Orleans Hill Winery's Our Daily Red and a white. Their wines are organic, sulfite-free and vegan-friendly. Read more. Based in Nevada City, California, they have been making organic wine for 20 years. They've got an interesting write-up on the benefits on screwcaps versus corks. Read it.
To cap the evening off we're having a sort of dine-a-round. Participating eCruisers member restaurants will be inviting you to join them afterwards ... and arrive, yes, via an eCruisers electric shuttle. Try it out! If you take an ecruiser ride to Luna Blu after Green Drinks, they will give you a coupon for a free glass of wine with dinner!

We've having a great raffle: An overnight stay at Loews Annapolis Hotel, $25 gift certificates from Luna Blu, and more!
Luna Blu would like you to know that they will be open for the First Sunday Arts Festivals through October, with 1/2-price on bottles of wine those days.
The weather forecast for Tuesday is perfect -- 66 to 79 degrees and clear... perfect for Theatre under the stars and dinner after!
See you Tuesday.

What is Green Drinks?
Green Drinks is a monthly (more or less) get-together that gives the environmentally minded a chance to get to know one another in a fun, informal way facilitating connections and working together for a common cause: The Health of the Chesapeake Bay. We are apart of an amazing international group, greendrinks.org, with over 600 like us all around the world. Of course, we think our Annapolis crew is the best! Try visiting other groups while you're on the road. And, it's truly not about the drinks ... those who don't drink alcoholic beverages are welcome too! | |
