Hello Green Drinkers
and welcome to all newcomers ...

April Green Drinks
Our Second Annual Green Drinks for the Chesapeake Bay
and a call to action

Thursday, April 22, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Severn Inn, 1993 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, Annapolis

see our promotional video

Our countdown is underway for a great party for a terrific cause!

Bring yourself, family, friends and be counted while lending your support to the Chesapeake Clean Water Act. And dare we say it, the forecast is for a BEAUTIFUL evening overlooking the Bay.

There will be 17 Green Drinks groups from around the watershed all gathering Thursday. Through the evening they will be reporting in their numbers as we try to top the world record of 1800! We even have a new partner in our effort, the National Restaurant Association's newly launched Greener Restaurants program. Read more.

Our Hostssevern inn
The Severn Inn is more than ready for our return!  We'll have two dining rooms and, weather cooperating, the outside upper deck. While on the deck, check out their new oyster reef by their docks. The Severn Inn is right next to the Naval Academy bridge, on the Severn River. | Map & directions. | Read about the Severn Inn's sustainable practices.

Both their beverages and appetizers will be highlighting organic/sustainable choices.

The featured wine is from Sokol Blosser Vineyardsin Oregon. Read about their sustainable practices and be sure to check out the messages on the bottles and the corks. They are hysterical. Check out the website for the red, Meditrina. It's a hoot! The white, Evolution, also has its own website. ("Chill. Pour. Sip. Chill. Think how you might evolve.")

The menu includes: Chilled Charcoal Roasted Irish Organic Salmon with grilled organic asparagus and lemon-olive oil creme Fraiche; Organic Cauliflower Soup with thyme, garlic and cream; Organic Yellow Beet Salad with organic cherry tomatoes, blood oranges, and cilantro lime dressing; assorted Maryland cheeses with honeycomb, fig jam, and toasted French bread; MSC Certified Bay Scallop Ceviche; and Sustainable Farm Raised Hiramasa Suchi Roll with green onions, avocado and chili puree. Wow!

Our friends at Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company are making a special martini for our event with their new River's Edge blend. Just ask for the On the Edge Martini.

Event and Program
With an anticipated big crowd (we hope to top our 215 from last year), we will be streamlining. NO SIGN IN, NO NAME BADGES ... so please remember to BRING YOUR OWN NAMETAG -- that's as Green as it gets! As always, there is no RSVP, and no charge to enter. Cash bar.

To be counted you'll need a door prize ticket-- available as you come in. Make sure you get one. There will be no raffle, instead we've got some terrific door prizes just for being there ... if you have a ticket. See below.

Throughout the evening we will be educating everyone about the Chesapeake Clean Water Act. Just find the folks wearing the bright blue scarves (thanks to our friends at CBF). We will have only one display table with information on the Chesapeake Clean Water Act. For any other newsworthy items, bring one to put up on our cork boards. We will have take-away cards (thanks to Clean Currents) with the link to send in your email about the legislation, if you haven't already.

Around 6:30 we'll have a few words by our sponsors and special guests including Kim Coble of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.  Then, we'll draw for door prizes -- including a brunch for two from the Severn Inn, a generous assortment of golf accessories from  Bonterra Wines (Organically farmed for flavor!), books on organic gardening, and a Conant Custom Brass Rain Gauge which mounts on a post, made of solid brass and glass Weems & Plath -- and make our Toast to the Bay that we'll be capturing and posting to our blog.

Getting There
PLEASE CARPOOL, kayak, ride bikes ... bring your boat? The Severn Inn has its parking lot and overflow can go to the Jonas Green Park right next door.

Check out our Call to Action
The Chesapeake Clean Water and Ecosystem Restoration Act of 2009, now working its way through Congress, has been called by many the last, best hope for restoration of our national treasure. We are going to use the powerful grass roots networking of Green Drinks to help move this bill along to passage.

We Green Drinkers will add our unique voice to the fight for restoration of the Chesapeake Bay by enlisting our colleagues, friends and family all across the country to obtain votes for the bill's passage in Congress - and we'll have fun doing it too!

Click here or read our BLOG to learn more, get involved, and join the conversation!

Use the handy forwarding link at the bottom of this email to send this message to your friends and colleagues so they'll know about this call for action and our event on April 22. We've got a powerful network in Green Drinks. Let's use it and join together in support of our National Treasure!

Maryland Public Television Chesapeake Bay Week

April 18 - April 25

The Chesapeake Bay -- the world's largest estuary -- got its name from the Powhatan Indian word, chesepiooc, which means "Great Shellfish Bays." It was described by H.L. Mencken, the sage of Baltimore, as "an immense protein factory."

It's such an important part of our state's history and its identity, which is why Maryland Public Television (MPT) celebrates this important natural resource and highlights its most critical issues during its annual Chesapeake Bay Week.

The only programming initiative of its kind in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed region, Chesapeake Bay Week is part of MPT's year-round, ongoing commitment to the bay and our environment.

At the conclusion of Chesapeake Bay Week, MPT holds a Volunteer-a-thon to give viewers a unique chance to donate volunteer hours to help clean up the bay.

Complete program listing is on our website.

Featured Program:
Seize the Bay, starring Annapolis' own, Them Eastport Oyster Boys, Saturday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m. View the show with "Them Boys," in person, at the Boatyard Bar & Grill in Eastport

What is Green Drinks?

green drinks annapolis
Green Drinks is a monthly (more or less) get-together that gives the environmentally minded a chance to get to know one another in a fun, informal way facilitating connections and working together for a common cause: The Health of the Chesapeake Bay. We are apart of an amazing international group, greendrinks.org, with over 600 like us all around the world.  Of course, we think our Annapolis crew is the best!  Try visiting other groups while you're on the road.  And, it's truly not about the drinks ... those who don't drink alcoholic beverages are welcome too!
