All of us in this industry have been somewhat numbed by the very poor market that we have been experiencing all of these months and I think many of us are "mental zombies". Our goal is to get up and just try to survive each day and hold on until the market turns. This is normal but it is dangerous! We must continue to challenge ourselves to be creative and look for new ways to add value to our customers and potential customers. An old business colleague of mine always said "to be successful in selling builders you must first identify their pain, and then offer them a solution to eliminate that pain". Read more...

Some national action is going to occur. What kind is for another article, but for today let's explore how we in the building industry must face the changes coming our way that are driven by energy and environmental issues. Read more...

Somebody Cares America Seeks Assistance
in Rebuilding After Hurricane Ike

Somebody Cares logo
In Bridge City, Texas, there were 3,500 homes before Hurricane Ike made landfall on September 13 of this year. Of those homes, only 14 are livable today. And that is only one of many communities on the gulf coast that were affected by the Category 2 hurricane. Blamed for 164 deaths and the third most destructive hurricane to ever hit the United States, Ike is responsible for an estimated $27 billion in damage in U.S. coastal areas alone, with additional damage of up to $4 billion in Cuba. The Other Definition of "Green"
Shaw logo
By Christine Cook, Design Center Merchandising Manager
Shaw Industries

Green. We know how to pronounce green: (grēn). We also know the definition of green:  a color made up from the combination of the two primary colors yellow and blue. But do we all know what "green" means when it comes to sustainability? It is a confusing "green" world out there and there are various shades of "green" when it comes to home products. Shaw Industries has been working for years on innovative ways of reducing waste, improving its manufacturing processes, and preserving our Earth's natural resources. Shaw's many innovations and initiatives are collectively known as the Shaw Green Edge. Read more...

But So Is Project Management
BuildSoft logo
