FROM THE MENAHEL

FORGIVENESS

Since before Rosh haShannah, Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks shlit"a of England has been broadcasting insightful short thoughts via You Tube for this time of the year.  If you haven't seen them, it's well worth visiting his "channel" by clicking here:

In one of his messages, HaRav Sacks notes the importance of the well known halacha of not only apologizing to Hashem, but of apologizing to those we have wronged.  He notes, "Saying sorry is the super glue of interpersonal life. It mends relationships that would otherwise be broken beyond repair."

Yet, there is not just the need for apologies.  There is also the need for forgiveness.  He notes:

"We can't ask G-d to forgive us if we don't forgive others. We have to forgive those who've offended us, however hard it is, because life is too short to feel resentment...Our energies are too precious to waste on a past we can't undo. No one can offend me without my permission...On these holy days, we have to let go of hate. We have to forgive. And we will then travel lighter through life, with less grief, more joy."

In a Kehilla, all of us have ample opportunities to upset others.  Hopefully, when we upset one another it's not intentional.  Yet it is too easy to let feelings of hurt and anger grow.  We should apologize to those we have wronged.  And we should also let go of the anger, hurts and disappointments and instead grasp the opportunity to forgive.  Instead of carrying around resentments we should seek to judge others favorably and love our fellow Jew and forgive those who have wronged us- even if they have not asked.  And when we do this prior to Yom Kippur, we have a far greater ability to ask Hashem to forgive us for the times we have wronged, disappointed or angered Him.

I want to take this opportunity to ask forgiveness from anyone who I have upset over the past year.  I always say that while I never upset anyone intentionally, that is not the same as never upsetting anyone.  And as a Menahel, I am sure I have upset others and I hope that they will forgive me.

Finally, I wish each and every one of you and your families a Gmar Chatima Tovah- a good sealing in the Book of Life.

Shabbat Shalom and Gemar Chatimah Tovah,

Rabbi Shmuel Jablon

Menahel (Principal)

Tefilla for Gilad Shalit

tefillafor Gilad

On Wednesday, Torah Academy 4th-8th graders joined a world wide effort to daven for Gilad Shalit and missing IDF soliders, as well as for Jonathan Pollard.  Tehillim and a special prayer composed by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel were recited.  We hope that our prayers, and those of all of Klal Yisrael, are accepted and Gilad Ben Aviva, Yonatan Ben Malkah and the other missing soliders will return home healthy.

"WHAT I LOVE ABOUT T.A.!"
We have come to dread vacations as they involve our children's constant whining that they want to go back to school... they miss school. they miss their teachers... they miss their friends... when will school start- how long left...
We are so grateful that Torah Academy has created an environment so supportive and nurturing that our kids prefer to be there than at home!

The staff at TA don't just teach our children, they have coached, guided and supported us too, its a real partnership and everyone is fully committed.

Just this morning I had to use Coach Kenny's famous tagline, 'Discipline and self-control' to get the boys to sit down and have their cereal!

~Tamar Daniel

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sweet like the honey we eat in Tishrei, our girls first taste of TA each morning comes with a smiling and affectionate teacher who escorts them into the building. That sets a great tone for a great day just as the first month set a great tone for the whole year.
