| What's New on BindiBlogs |
Interviewing David Letterman once on his PBS show, Charlie Rose asked what the best part of fame was. That people treated him well, Letterman answered. That people treated him the way people should treat each other all the time: with respect and courtesy.
My second evening in Bangkok, I commented to my nephew that I had spent the entire day without witnessing one single incident of anger or impatience or rudeness. It was a day I had spent at Siam Square: a downright mad shopping area which included four malls ranging from MBK, which was basically five floors of bazaars in a futuristically-designed building, to Paragon, which housed the familiar upscale stores: Louis Vuitton, Prada, Armani, D & G. On the streets in between these malls were street vendors of every possible thing imaginable that was cheap and expendable, plus, of course, food carts, food stalls and restuarants. On the pedestrian walkway overpasses connecting the malls was one of only two places I ever saw beggars in Bangkok. And, of course, all of this was happening inside the roar of the ever bumper-to-bumper Bangkok traffic.
Take a vacation from your thinking style! We all know that going away somewhere different is always a good thing. Taking a holiday from your usual thinking style is a great thing! It can lead to new possibilities and approaches to challenging situations.
Think of someone you have always admired. It could be someone in your life that you look up to; or it could be a character from a film or a book. When you are confronted with a challenge, ask yourself how this other person would react. What would he/she say and do? Research shows that often behaviour changes first; the thinking style may change after. Try this new approach for at least a week and note the changes in how you feel and how you behave. It is possible to incorporate new traits into our old personality style. You may become more relaxed, or more focused, or more energetic, or more courageous, or more confident...the possibilities are endless! Click HERE to read more. You may be thinking - isn't this a health/wellness blog? its true, it is. But being a blog, its also a personal (as well as professional) take on all things wellness and well-being. So although this isn't a parenting blog, I wanted to share my very personal feelings of motherhood - now six weeks in. In doing so, I hope it will provide insight, inspiration, information and, if nothing else, a glimpse into the inner workings of my mind!
To begin with, I have to be honest. I never thought I'd have children. I don't know why, I just never saw it in my 'cards'. Actually I never really gave it much thought. I was of the mindset: 'if it happens, great, if not, that's ok - not meant to be'. I wasn't one of those girls who dreamed of getting married and having a family. Perhaps the reason is two-fold: first, growing up in a single parent family and being an only child - my experience of 'family' was much different and therefore my expectations were scaled accordingly. Second, my education-focused, career-oriented mindset didn't quite allow the mental space to think of much else other than 'school - work - achieve, achieve, achieve'.
Keeping it Fresh Yoga is a ancient healing technology. The asana practice is just one element of a vast system of understanding and relating to the human experience or humanology. Here are some interesting techniques to add to your cleansing rituals. Neti PotA Neti Pot is a small pot used for irrigating the nasal passages. Typically it has a spout attached near the bottom, and often a handle on the opposite side. Neti Pots are used in yoga to assist in clearing the nasal passages, since controlled breathing plays a central role in yoga. The Neti Pot is used to pour warm salt water through one nostril and then either runs out of the other nostril. The Neti pot used with a saline solution has been shown to be an effective treatment for hay fever, sinusitis, rag weed and other nasal conditions. You can now buy Neti Pots at Shoppers Drug Mart. Alum and Salt This mixture is used to cleanse the mouth and tongue. Take two parts powered Potassium Alum mixed with one part salt and use like a tooth powder to brush your teeth and your tongue. During the night our mouths turn into an incubator for a host of different bacteria and germs.

Matata means trouble in Swahili, as Chico discovers in 1928, after jumping ship on a journey from India to Africa. With some skills and much sweat, he navigates the channels open to him under the segregated colonial structure of Kenya, while doing all to keep his heritage alive, and dreaming only of retirement to his beloved Goa. Enter son Lando, two decades later, and all plans are on hold. Just Matata, narrated by Lando, brings to life these multi-layered stories that straddle two distinct colonies in mid 20th century: the bucolic and romantic Goa (Portuguese India) and the adventure-filled, yet precarious world of British Kenya. The stories, alternatively funny, sad and evocative, deal with the enduring dichotomy between generations, race, cultures and love, and the transformational impact of destiny-changing events in life's cyclical journey. JoSH makes history with McDonald's and musicJoSH, a band whose name is strategically spelled to annunciate the o as "oh" as opposed to the "ah" sound in the name "Joshua," released an album in Pakistan one year ago, but it was not just any album. With an impressive following in Pakistan, the group members approached McDonald's restaurant with an idea- a vision. JoSH, made up of members Rup Magon and Q Hussain, wanted to make an exclusive deal with the ever-popular, fast food restaurant chain, where their new album would only be sold at McDonald's for the first six weeks of release. No record stores, no Target, no Wal-Mart- strictly McDonald's restaurants. It was not easy to convince McDonald's that their idea would be a raging success, but once they did, the drawing board became their playground. McDonald's had just created a new sandwich, the grand chicken burger. The plan was that every customer who chose to supersize this value meal would receive a copy of JoSH's new album, titled "Beyond Kismat." Click HERE to read more. Bollywood reacts to rule on film smokingBollywood's reaction was mixed Tuesday to the central government's informing the Supreme Court that it would permit smoking scenes in films though with a statutory warning of this being injurious to health.
The new notification would mandate that the films showing a smoking scene would show the actor giving a warning at the start of the film, after the interval while a static message would be displayed in the course of the scene showing smoking. The notification, superseding all earlier notifications prohibiting smoking scenes, would be issued September 14. That's a week before UTV's "Heroine", with a scene of a woman smoking, releases in India.

Kids' snacks that make the gradeAs kids prepare to head back to the classroom, many parents are already dreading the task of coming up with healthy snacks for kids to pack to school. Snacks are an important part of any child's back to school menu. A no-snacking policy - at school and home - can undermine a child's energy, mood and overall development. Growing kids need to refuel every two to three hours to keep their blood sugar (glucose) levels stable as sustained blood sugar means kids will have more energy to concentrate in class and participate in after school sports. The added calories from snacks provide an opportunity to boost your child's intake of important nutrients like calcium, iron and zinc. Click HERE to read more.
