Dear Members, Welcome to another edition of BindiWeddings.
I can't believe my wedding is only two months away and there's still so much to do. We all know desi weddings are complex and complicated (but many would agree this is exactly what makes them fun and unique!) It's times like this where I wish I had a wedding planner. Better yet, a HINDU wedding planner. How brilliant is that? Handing over some of my responsibilities to a capable professional would surely lighten my load however, it'd also put another dent in my pocket. What would you do?
Every soon-to-be bride and groom just wants their day to be special and I'm pretty sure with or without certain elements, the mere idea of two people who love each other uniting in marriage, is more than enough to make one's BIG DAY extraordinary. You know what else might make your wedding cool? A live-tweet of the ceremony!
Until next time... Peace and Love, Ashna Singh Content Editor Bindi Weddings Uniquely Yours | Distinctively South Asian

Hindu Wedding Planners Thrive in the United States | When I got married almost 10 years ago, it was my parents and I who orchestrated the week-long affair, a "medium-sized" Indian affair spread over various venues in Manhattan and New Jersey, involving more than 450 guests from as a far away as Hong Kong, New Delhi and Germany.
The year of tension-filled planning it took to put it together was punctuated with heated arguments and littered with to-do lists that never seemed to get finished. I tried reaching out to several well-known Manhattan wedding planners located in the Upper East Side, Chelsea and the West Village for help and quickly realized that I was better off on my own.
One planner, for example, assured me that she was well-versed with Hindu weddings and then proceeded to suggest that beef curry would make an ideal entre choice. When I explained to another that it was customary that the bride and groom touch the priest's and parents feet after the ceremony, she commented that it sounded like a demeaning ritual and asked if it was really necessary.

How to live-tweet a desi wedding
|
Twitter has enabled news to be transmitted within mere seconds. Now, ordinary people are able to take part in the way information travels and even add their opinion to it. Recently, many have started using this platform to describe an event with a constant flow of tweets. This practice is known as "live-tweeting."The phenomenon of live-tweeting was popularised during the Arab Spring. Since then, we have seen many an incident being live-tweeted. Whether it is the Osama bin Laden operation, Whitney Houston's funeral, or even an abortion, live-tweeting is the new fad.
So perfected is this practice that there even exists many guidelines on how to live-tweet an event.
