January 30, 2012
Dear Members, Welcome to another edition of BindiWeddings. I'm a little late but nonetheless, Happy New Year!! Hope you all had a safe and joyous holiday season.
As for me, I am in full wedding gear mode and have a lot more check marks on my to-do-list. :) The clock is ticking and I can no longer say to my fiance, "let's wait until next year dear."
One of the tasks that I have happily accomplished was the purchase of my final outfit to complete my wedding wardrobe. I decided to take a leap-of-faith and pursued online shopping for the first time. To my surprise, it was a very fulfilling simplistic experience and I am still beaming after receiving my product. Now, I have an alternative to pushy (and often rude) sales reps in my hometown Brampton. Would you consider online shopping for your bridal attire? Feel free to post your thoughts HERE or @mybindi on Twitter.
To complete the rest of my tasks, I'm going to get some MORE inspiration by heading down to the 15th Annual Scotiabank Suhaag Show Sunday, February 5, 2012. (see below for details) Suhaag's Fall Show 2011 was a blast so I'm looking forward to see what's in store for 2012.
See you there! Peace and Love, Ashna Singh Content Editor Bindi Weddings Uniquely Yours | Distinctively South Asian

Get that bejewelled wedding card! |
They could be Swarovski studded, they could match the bride's trousseau, they could come in multiple folds and, yes, they might just cost Rs.100,000 (about $2,000) each. Welcome to the world of the big fat Indian wedding card!
The country's wedding market is said to be worth about Rs.1,500 billion (about $30 billion) - and growing at about 10-15 percent every year; so little surprise that marriage invites are getting to be a glitzy and exclusive affair.
NRIs, especially, are a major constituent of this market. The wedding in 2004 of Britain-based Indian steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal's daughter was said to have been a 30-million pound sterling affair.

Wedding Photography: The next big thing |
As kids, we all had those moments. Bored, we'd wander to our parents' cupboards, root about the shelves, and emerge triumphantly with big, fat, ornately decorated photo albums - the pictorial proof of our parents' and relatives' wedding days.
Going through the albums was a blast. We'd chortle over those outdated fashions, exercise our wits over the sizes and shapes of the wedding guests, make rude remarks about mandap decorations, but most of all, comment on one particular thing - the poses and compositions those old-time wedding photographers insisted on. Every photo looked the same as every other photo. Only the faces and outfits changed.
You wouldn't see wedding photos like those often these days. In fact, if young couples had their way, you'd never see photographs like that again. What's cool now is candid shots. Wedding pictures are now keeping it real. |
Britain's longest married couple is from India |
They celebrated their 86th wedding anniversary.
That old chestnut about marriages being made in heaven and the golden couple living happily ever afterwards could, indeed, be true.
Karam Chand and his wife Kartari from Bradford have been married for 86 years, reportedly making them Britain's longest married couple - and an unlikely advertisement for India's arranged marriages at a time many Britons look upon any union not born out of instant "chemistry" with suspicion as a forced marriage.
They insist that the knot they tied in a Punjab village back in 1925 is still strong and describe their long marriage as a "blessing."
The couple - husband (106) and wife (99) - moved to Britain in the first big wave of Indian migration to Britain in 1965...
