You're Invited to Live United!

Alison Lebovitz is United Way's Chairperson for the 2012 Annual Community Campaign, and boy, is she excited!

The first Campaign Cabinet meeting has been held - we took pictures, shot videos, and we even shut down Market Street for almost 10 minutes so we could take this cool picture for our Facebook timeline cover!

We hope over the course of 2012 you'll see lots of people posting pictures of themselves in a Live United t-shirt on their Facebook profiles.

Volunteer United Awards

The Annual Volunteer United Awards Banquet will be held Tuesday, April 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Unum Atrium. Tickets are still available. Just call the Volunteer Center at 752-0316 or click here to reserve your seats today. The ticket purchase deadline is April 10.

The awards are hosted by United Way's Volunteer Center, DOVIA, and the Corporate Volunteer Council. WRCB TV 3's Jed Mescon is the Master of Ceremonies and will host an entertaining evening featuring a special message from the First Lady of Tennessee, Chrissy Haslam.

The Volunteer Center presents 10 service awards to exemplary volunteers who gave of themselves to this community in 2011. Awards are given in the following areas: Youth, Community, Education, Environment, Health, Corporate, National Service, Judges Award, Disaster Services Group and Disaster Services Individual.

211 Works Hard in Storm's Aftermath

After the March 2 tornado, United Way's 211 Center and Volunteer Center were both on the ground the next day, assessing damages, donation needs and volunteer needs. 211 is on call in a disaster.

For the following two weeks, the 211 Center fielded calls for help from storm victims while one staff member, Diane Jarvis, stayed on site at Greenwood Baptist Church to advise storm victims on what to do and where to go in the day's immediately following the destruction.

The Volunteer Center was on hand too, assessing volunteer needs. At this time, Open House Volunteers still need people to help with the new damage in Harrison and with last year's in Apison.
