Teach them to be safe...
TOP 10 SAFETY TIPS FOR CHILDREN
  1. Look both ways before crossing the street.
  2. Stay on the sidewalk. If there are no sidewalks, stay on the left side of the road facing traffic.
  3. Cross the street at corners only.
  4. Don't wear baggy or loose costumes that could cause you to trip or fall.
  5. Wear light-colored reflective clothing so you are more visible.
  6. Wear face paint rather than masks that cover your eyes.
  7. Never go into a stranger's house or apartment.
  8. Have a grown-up inspect candy before eating it.
  9. Only visit well-lit homes.
  10. Carry a flashlight or glow stick to light your way.
...while you protect them.
TOP 10 SAFETY TIPS FOR ADULTS
  1. Know the neighborhood where your children are trick-or-treating.
  2. Inspect candy before permitting your child to eat it.
  3. Accompany children under the age of 12.
  4. Purchase fire retardant costumes.
  5. When driving, slow down in residential neighborhoods and turn on vehicle headlights so that you are more visible.
  6. Help trick-or-treaters reach your door by clearing the sidewalk and porch of clutter.
  7. Do not give candy to pets - chocolate is toxic to animals.
  8. Keep candy foil and holiday decorations out of reach of toddlers and pets.
  9. Supervise pumpkin carving - in a well lit area and on a stable surface.
  10. Aggressively flush your child's eyes with cool water if they come into contact with face paint or glitter.
