Tocqueville Philanthropy Award

Davenport FamilyOur annual Tocqueville Celebration of Thanks was held October 7 at the Patten family's beautiful home, Ashland Farm. Approximately 50 Tocqueville Society members joined us that evening for a wonderful affair. To those of you who were unable to join us, you were greatly missed.

We presented our 2008 philanthropy award to the Davenport Family: Mrs. Joseph Davenport, Jr., Joe and Susan Davenport, and Ward and Ashley Davenport. The award, created by Cessna Decosimo, depicts his artistic interpretation of a woman in need.

The entire Davenport family was recently honored for their generous philanthropic efforts in the Chattanooga area.

Your Tocqueville Legacy

What could happen for every Tocqueville Society member who endows his or her annual gift?

  • United Way could give 714 children a free book every month, for one year.
  • United Way could help provide one month's utility services to 63 homes for one year, through its agency partners.
  • United Way could help provide more than 1,100 food vouchers for one year, through its agency partners.

These are just a few of the things United Way could do with each endowed gift.

Kudos to our Tocqueville Society - with only four more participating members, we will be the first Tocqueville Society in the nation to reach United Way's national goal for Legacy Circle membership to equal 15% of total Society membership.

If you would like to participate, please call Brent Taylor at 423-752-0310 for more information.

How Sara & Nancy Live United

Sara has been a life-long advocate for her daughter Nancy, a 58-year-old with developmental disabilities. With her family's support, Nancy graduated high school with a special diploma and has worked at the social security department for more than 20 years.

Recently Sara was diagnosed with cancer - it was a difficult time for the family. But Sara and Nancy are both members of the Jewish Community Federation's eldercare services, a United Way program.

When we reach a hand out to one, we influence the condition of all. That's how you Live United.
