We're Having a Party!

Project Ready for School will celebrate its 3rd birthday party on Sunday, September 23 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at East Lake Park.  Please note this new location is on 34th street at the duck pond, just off of Dodds Avenue.

Families can sign-up for free books at our party. Children can also get free developmental check-ups and each family receiving a check-up will receive a free, one day family pass to the Creative Discovery Museum.

Parents and children can also enjoy storytelling, face painting, and other fun and educational activities while learning more about school readiness skills and ways to develop them. All Imagination Library books will be on hand to read, or your family can listen as volunteer storytellers bring them to life. Cake and healthy snacks will be available at no cost. No RSVP required - just show up and have fun.

Sande LambertMeet Our Loaned Execs

Sande Lambert earned a B.A. in psychology from the University of Tennessee and worked as a counselor for several years before joining Signal Centers in 2001. Since Signal Centers, Inc. is a United Way agency and it supplied guest speakers for campaign events in previous years, she was somewhat familiar with the Loaned Executive program.

"I didn't hesitate when asked to be a Loaned Executive," Sande says. "As an LE, I'm making new business contacts in my field and across industries, and I get to raise awareness in my community about how United Way programs help. My daughter Kennedy is a recipient of two programs - she has received Project Ready for School books since birth and she attends a UW-funded childcare center. Thanks to these programs, my husband and I can work during the week; Kennedy gets a great start in life with the best education and a caring, extended family at her school; and we all get to read the free books together during family time on the weekends. My hope is that more people in our community realize that the United Way is there for all of us, regardless of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds."

The United Way is grateful for Sande's dedication. We know she and her fellow Loaned Executives will lead us through one of our best campaigns ever.
