Dear youth and parents,
I'm back in the office after a beach vacation last week and an unexpected stint on jury duty (my first time) this week. I hope to see you in worship on Sunday morning as I preach the 9:00 and 11:00 services, something I enjoy doing each year. I will be sharing some insights from our participation in the Sticky Faith Cohort at the Fuller Youth Institute this year that I think will be helpful for everyone in the congregation. Specifically, I'll be looking at the ways that a church is uniquely positioned to help children and youth make a healthy transition into adulthood, and the role that everyone in the congregation (not just the youth ministry) plays in that process. Afterward I would love to hear your feedback, so don't be shy about calling or e-mailing if you want to dig deeper into the topic and it's implications for our church!

High School trip to drive-in movie rescheduled for August 17

UCC's high school youth were scheduled to travel to Granbury tonight to watch a movie at the Brazos Drive-In. However, because there were only a handful of RSVP's the outing will be rescheduled for a date when more people should be able to attend. Mark your calendar for Friday, August 17 as a tentative make-up date, and watch for more info next month! |

Latte with the Ladies this Saturday at Black Rooster Bakery

Latte with the Ladies, a monthly intergenerational gathering for women at a local coffee shop, will be this Saturday, July 14. Ladies of all ages are invited to gather at the Black Rooster Bakery (2430 Forest Park Blvd. at Park Hill Dr.) at 10 a.m. for tasty treats and informal conversation. Invite a friend and drop in anytime during the morning!

Trip to Burger's Lake for Chi Rho & new 6th graders Wednesday

 Our middle school youth (including upcoming 6th graders) will be escaping the heat this Wednesday afternoon, July 18, on the sandy beaches and water slides of Burger's Lake! The group will meet at the church at 1 p.m. to carpool over to the lake, and will return around 5:30 p.m. In addition to swimming, we'll be making ice cream sundaes and playing some fun group games together. Bring $10 for admission and everything you need to swim and we'll look forward to seeing you there!

Herb's "Scavenger Hunt Lunches" kick off next week

From Herb Murray, Assistant Minister for Middle School:
Next week will mark the beginning of what I'm calling "Scavenger Hunt Lunch." Here is how it works: Each week every Chi Rho youth who wants to participate (and their parents) will receive a text message containing a riddle. Each riddle will be a hint that leads to a restaurant near the church where I'm having lunch that day. The first youth to reply back with the answer to the riddle will receive their lunch free. Once the first correct response is received, everyone will get a second text with the time and location for lunch.
If you would like to participate please email me at herb@uccftw.com with your youth's cell phone number and a parent's cell phone number and email address. If a youth does not have a cell phone, they can still participate with a parent's cell phone number. Texts will be sent out the day before lunch is to take place and parents will also receive an email at the beginning of each week to be courteous to family schedule planning. Hope to see you at our first mystery location next week! |
