Dear youth and parents,
Next week I'll be traveling to Pasadena, California with Larry Thomas, Kera Watts, and Steve Midgley for our first summit as part of a Sticky Faith Cohort sponsored by the Fuller Youth Institute. I got the agenda this week and it looks like they have an excellent three days in store for us and the other 28 churches that will be represented there. To give you an idea of what we'll be working toward this year, here are the three primary desired outcomes listed on our agenda: 1. To create a network of churches who can learn from each other and support each other toward Sticky Faith. 2. To help ministry teams understand and begin to contextualize Sticky Faith findings for their own contexts. 3. To begin to identify a strategy for bringing about organizational change in the next 12 months.
Easy stuff, right? (Especially that third one!) Sample sessions on the schedule include "the sticky web of intergenerational relationships," "leading change in your context," "understanding hurting kids and families," "strategic adoption and intergenerational community," and "maintaining disciplined attention." I know that the four of us will have a LOT to share when we get back, and I'm looking forward to taking it all in and learning from the experts at Fuller and our peers from other churches around the country. Please keep us in your prayers during our trip Tuesday through Thursday next week, we would really appreciate it!

Save the date for the UCC Senior Banquet - May 9

 Be sure to mark your calendar for the Senior Banquet, an opportunity to honor UCC's graduating high school seniors on Wednesday, May 9. The planning committee for this year's banquet had their first meeting last night and laid the groundwork for another wonderful event. Invitations and calls to families with graduating seniors will begin soon - but the UCC community is encouraged to make plans now to join us for the banquet in Fellowship Hall that evening! |

Youth invited to submit their work for Decorative Arts Exhibit

From Marilyn Ivy, Church and the Arts Committee:
 UCC's Intergenerational Decorative Arts Exhibit is scheduled for Sunday, March 4, in Room 207 to "let your light shine" through your creative crafts, decorative items made from various materials, jewelry, needlework, sculpture, pottery, furniture, woven goods, etc. The theme for 2012 is "A Gift From God," and you are invited to enter artwork you created in Scouts, Camp Fire, church, school, or anywhere else. Keep in mind that this year we are looking for creative crafts and decorative items, rather than drawings, paintings, and sculptures.
So that we may anticipate the number participating, please turn in your entry form by this Sunday, February 19. Exhibiting is open to anyone at UCC. Prom Dreams will be opening soon - and you can help!

The 2012 prom season is quickly approaching and UCC's Prom Dreams ministry needs your help! There will be an informational meeting for volunteers on Thursday, March 1 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the Prom Dreams space above the Children's Closet. Volunteers will act as sales associates for the Prom Dreams "store" and will help girls select their dresses and accessories. As always, we are also in need of dresses (of all sizes), shoes, and purses to restock our inventory. Donations can be dropped off at the UCC reception desk. Unsure if a dress will work? Bring it by anyway! Dresses that are not selected after two seasons will be donated to Berry Good Buys. If you have questions, please contact Jessica Vacketta at jessica@uccftw.com.

Interested in a mission pilgrimage to Nicaragua this summer?

After a great mission pilgrimage to Nicaragua last summer, UCC is organizing another trip for the summer of 2012. This year's pilgrimage is scheduled for July 29 - August 5 and is open to youth and adults age 16 and up. The projected cost is $1,200 and a $100 deposit will secure your spot on the trip. Several of UCC's ministries are interested in finding more opportunities for youth who play an instrument to share their talents in our worship services. To help make that happen, we need to develop an up-to-date list of youth and the instruments they play, whether it's a guitar, bassoon, viola, bagpipes, or theremin. Are you a middle or high school youth who plays an instrument? Do you have a youth in your house who plays? Click here and take a few seconds to let us know!
