Dear youth and parents, Thanks to all of you who came to the Hanging of the Greens service on Sunday night (and special thanks to parents who ensured your youth were here to participate). We had the best turnout by youth participants and worshippers since I've been at UCC, and the elements of the new service came together very well. Our youth really did a phenomenal job processing and hanging the greenery, reading scripture and stories, ringing handbells, serving communion, and receiving the offering. I'm also thankful for our music ministry, The Search band and staff, the children's choir, and all the ministers and volunteers from so many different ministry areas who worked behind the scenes to make the service and fellowship dinner possible. It was a great start to this special season for me, and I hope that it was for you as well.
Read on for info on several upcoming opportunities, including the last TCU football game, a special Advent worship service, Christmas caroling, and an opportunity to order additional Hanging of the Greens t-shirts.
Grace and Peace, Russ

Parking lot fundraiser: TCU vs. UNLV this Saturday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Mike Morton, Youth Fundraising Coordinator:
Youth and parents have another great opportunity to earn funds to use for church camps and trips this Saturday when the TCU Horned Frogs play UNLV at 1:30 p.m. It looks like the weather may be an issue on Saturday, so keep an eye on the weather but plan for a regular game day schedule.
With that in mind, here is what we need for this week's parking:
- 10:30 a.m - 2-3 volunteers to open the Reserved Lot three hours before game time. As soon as we have an additional 4-6 volunteers, we will open one or two of the daily lots.
- 11:30 a.m - By this time, we should have 12-15 volunteers working and all lots open. We need an adequate number of adults to open a given lot because, for safety reasons, we do not leave the younger youth on their own.
If you are able to be there at 10:30 a.m., please email me at m_morton@sbcglobal.net and let me know so I can plan the schedule. To work the "regular" parking shift, please be at UCC by 11:30 a.m.
One other thing regarding our Reserved Lot: Those who have paid the premium to have a spot were assured their spot would be available until 30 minutes after kickoff. That means one or two people need to stay at that lot until 2 p.m. if any of the reserved spots are still open to be certain the spots are available. If you are not going to the game and can stay until 2 p.m., please let me know so we have this covered.
Thanks to all who have made our parking efforts so successful this year. Your efforts will benefit our Youth Ministry programs in this and future years and help fund camps, mission trips, and other events. Every hour worked has been worth over $75 in credit, and we hope to see you Saturday for our last home game. |
Christmas Cantata in worship services this Sunday morning
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This Sunday, December 4, the Chancel Choir will be presenting "On Christmas Night" by Bob Chilcott at both morning services. The piece is made up of eight carol settings that follow the sequence of the Christmas story, from the fall of Adam all the way to the birth of Jesus. The cantata is presented in the format of Lessons and Carols with biblical passages throughout, and will take the place of our typical scripture reading and sermon. Invite a friend to worship and enjoy this musical gift from UCC's Chancel Choir!
