Dear youth and parents, We had quite a busy and exciting weekend as 23 of our middle school youth had a great experience at the Chi Rho Retreat at Disciples Crossing, youth and parents gathered at La Playa Maya for First Sunday Lunch, and many youth and parents were part of the 275+ people who worshiped at The Search on Sunday night as part of the special "I Love The Search" event. There are more special events on the horizon, so read on for those and a request for volunteers to help feed our hungry young people on Sunday nights!
Grace and Peace, Russ

Be a SUPPER hero! Volunteer to provide youth snack supper
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Susan Rogers, Youth Hospitality Coordinator:
Youth parents! See the youth up close, personal and appreciative by serving Snack Supper on Sunday night. Snack supper is a great way to to see and get to know the youth, and it's fun!
The commitment is for one Sunday evening, from about 5-7 p.m., plus cooking or shopping time - you decide how much time you want to spend on preparation. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. in the third floor kitchen for 30-40 youth and college students. All the paper goods, cutlery and drink supplies are there for you. You provide the food, fix lemonade (provided), put ice in glasses, serve everything and clean up. You can choose to donate the meal, or you can be reimbursed up to $100 if you provide itemized receipts. If you need suggestions on meal planning, you can contact me at 469.426.1796 or sundaysnackvolunteers@yahoo.com. When you pick your Sunday, I will be in touch with other useful tips. The third floor kitchen can be used anytime between morning services and the time to serve the meal. (Sandwiches are just as popular as anything else, so cooking isn't required if that's not your thing.) If you prefer to purchase all or part of the food already prepared, that's great too. There's also a fridge and freezer you can stash things in. You will receive a reminder the Sunday before your Snack Supper. Each month there will be an optional 15-minute meeting to show you the kitchen and how things in it work. (Usually just before Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and it's just to familiarize you - there's nothing difficult about it, as those who have served will tell you!)
Ready to volunteer? Pick one of the available dates listed below and e-mail me at sundaysnackvolunteers@yahoo.com: December 11 January 15, 22, 29 February 12, 19, 26 March 18, 25 April 15, 22, 29 May 6
Save the date: Youth Thanksgiving Feast on November 20
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Youth Thanksgiving Feast will be Sunday, November 20 from 6-7:45 p.m. on the 3rd floor. Turkey will be provided, but please bring your favorite side or dessert to share AND a canned food item to donate. E-mail jessica@uccftw.com with what you plan to bring so we don't end up with 20 pumpkin pies (my favorite).

Nominate an adult mentor for UCC's Disciples Class
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Registration ended on Monday for the Disciples Class, UCC's baptism and membership preparation course for youth in grades 6-12. We're now in the midst of organizing the class into small groups and recruiting adult mentors for each of those groups of 3-5 young people. Though we have a great pool of adults to choose from at UCC, I know we always overlook people who would be great mentors.
That's where you come in: If you know an active adult member of UCC with a mature faith, a love for the church, and a genuine desire to nurture the faith of our young people - tell us! Click here to view the volunteer job description for a Disciples Class mentor so that you know what's involved. Then, if you know someone who would be a great fit, click here to complete a nomination form.
Note: Completing a nomination doesn't commit them to anything and doesn't guarantee they'll be asked. It puts them on our radar so that we know they're out there and someone thinks they'd be a great mentor! |
