Dear youth and parents, I hope that you were able to connect with one of UCC's "Hands of Hope" opportunities that were part of our 9/11 memorial events. I've heard from so many people that they had meaningful experiences at the worship services, volunteer opportunities, labyrinth walk, standing-room-only concert, and more. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped make this 10th anniversary a time to look hopefully toward the future while remembering the past.
There is a lot coming up this weekend, with our first football parking fundraiser, ski retreat info meeting, and youth groups returning to their normal schedule. (Oh, and I'm preaching the morning services at UCC this week. It only comes once a year, so if you miss it you'll have a long wait until it happens again!) Read on for more information and I'll see you this weekend!

Youth parking lot fundraiser for TCU vs. ULM this Saturday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Mike Morton, youth fundraising coordinator:
Football season is here again, and youth and parents have the opportunity to raise money by parking cars in the church lots for TCU football games. Part of the money raised goes into youth reserve funds, and part goes into the individual accounts of those who work each game to use for camps, retreats, trips, and other church events. Last year each hour worked was worth over $75 in credit, so it's an easy way to pay for youth activities!
This Saturday is the first TCU home game but there is much more going on at UCC and we need your help. Walter Allen's funeral is at 10 a.m. and this is the first game ever to include a reserved season parking lot, which also opens at 10 a.m. The reserved lot will not be used for the funeral, but we do need to direct people to specific lots for funeral parking.
This Saturday we need about 5 people - preferably adults or older youth - to be at UCC at 9 a.m. to help us direct those attending the funeral to the proper lots. Those same people and any other volunteers present will open the reserved lot at 10 a.m. As soon as we have enough volunteers, we will then open the daily lots that are not occupied by those attending the funeral. If you would like to work the "regular" parking shift, please be at UCC no later than 11 a.m.
If you come at 9 a.m., you may leave at 11 a.m. - or choose to stay longer if you like. You will receive fundraising credit hours for the entire time you are helping in this effort. If you are able to be there at 9 or 10 a.m., please email Mike Morton at m_morton@sbcglobal.net .
New youth directories available - pick yours up this Sunday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was quite an undertaking with a lot of people involved, but I'm happy to report that we have handy UCC youth directories available this year! If you didn't pick one up at the Youth Family Roundup, be sure to get one for your household before Sunday school or youth groups any Sunday this month. Not only does the directory include contact, school, and grade info for youth and their families, it has a major events calendar, Disciples Class info, lists and contact info for lay leaders, youth serving in leadership positions, and more! Special thanks to Susan Brown for coordinating the effort, Errol Henry for organizing and publishing the directory, and Lauren Henry for the lovely cover design. |
Spread the word: UCC has season parking for TCU football
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're excited to offer season parking for TCU football games at UCC this year, and we need your help to spread the word! All the information is available online at www.uccfootballparking.org including pricing, rules, lot location, and required forms. A majority of the proceeds this year benefit UCC's youth ministry, providing scholarships for camps and mission trips. Tell your Frog fanatic friends and support our ministry to youth! |
