Dear youth and parents, We has quite a kickoff last week with over 100 youth in Sunday school and a packed house for our Youth Family Roundup on Sunday night. I'm excited about what's in store this year, and I hope you are, too! Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make our kickoff events happen, especially Laurie Hix for her incredible work organizing, creating, setting up, and adding a personal touch to the roundup. I know everyone appreciated it!
I went straight from the roundup on Sunday evening to the airport to catch a flight to San Antonio, so it was quite a crazy day for me. I'm here for an Army Chaplaincy course that certifies me as an instructor in PICK (singles) and LINKS (couples) relationship enchancement courses, and after completing training today I'll move to another hotel and serve on the instructor team for a Strong Bonds single soldier retreat. An added bonus: I can teach these courses at UCC (there's even a youth edition of the PICK course), so be sure to thank your Uncle Sam for putting me through this very expensive training that will benefit our church almost as much as the military. :-)
Grace and Peace, Russ

New youth directories available - get yours this Sunday!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was quite an undertaking with a lot of people involved, but I'm happy to report that we have handy UCC youth directories available this year! If you didn't pick one up at the Youth Family Roundup on Sunday evening, be sure to get one for your household before Sunday school or youth groups this week. Not only does the directory include contact, school, and grade info for youth and their families, it has a major events calendar, Disciples Class info, lists and contact info for lay leaders, youth serving in leadership positions, and more! Special thanks to Susan Brown for coordinating the effort, Errol Henry for organizing and publishing the directory, and Lauren Henry for the lovely cover design.
Snack supper punchcards available for Sunday night convenience
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're trying something new this year to make things easier for everyone involved in Sunday nights: Snack supper punchcards are available for snack supper. Each card costs $30, includes 10 dinners, and is kept at the church so you don't even have to keep up with it. Just find your card in the box before going through the line, punch it, and enjoy dinner! You can use the same cards for siblings, friends, or whoever you like - just punch it once for each dinner. To buy your card, just bring $30 cash or a $30 check payable to UCC to Sunday school or snack supper and see one of the youth ministers.

Spread the word: Season parking for TCU football available at UCC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're excited to offer season parking for TCU football games at UCC this year, and we need your help to spread the word! All the information you need is available online at www.uccfootballparking.org, including pricing, rules, lot location, and required forms. A majority of the proceeds this year benefit UCC's youth ministry, providing scholarships for camps and mission trips. Tell your Frog fanatic friends and support our ministry to youth! |
Think reminders are helpful? Sign up for UCC Youth text alerts!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Our youth ministry is excited to offer text alerts as a way to stay connected! Typical text alerts will include reminders for meetings and events, as well as time-sensitive announcements if an event is moved or canceled due to weather. After you sign up for alerts, you will automatically be added to the appropriate group (Chi Rho or CYF) as well as any events for which you register (camps, mission trips, retreats). That way you only receive texts that are relevant to YOU! Messages will go to parents AND youth to ensure everyone is on the same page, and we're committed to sending no more than two alerts per week to avoid straining your service plan.
Sound good? Here's how to sign up: 1. Send the following text message to 1-423-299-3299:
Join #UCCFTW YourFirstName YourLastName
(Example: join #UCCFTW Russ Boyd) 2. You will receive a confirmation text. Reply YES to the confirmation. 3. You're done! We'll add you to the relevant groups and events. |
