Dear youth and parents,
There's a lot coming up at UCC this weekend, so I thought it was worthwhile to send a 2nd e-news this week and get back on our regular Friday delivery schedule. Read on for info on the drive-in movie outing, mission trip luncheon, a farewell reception for our summer interns, the Back-to-School Retreat, and more!
As I mentioned in the last e-news, I'm currently in Salt Lake City for an annual training event for chaplains and chaplain assistants serving units that are part of the 807th Medical Command. I already have some interesting stories after our group took a guided tour of the Latter Day Saints visitor center and Temple Square AND had seats for a rehearsal of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Just be sure to ask after I return on Saturday night and I'll be happy to share!

Farewell reception for our summer interns this Sunday evening

This Sunday will mark the end of Aly Gideon and Judith Guy's 10-week summer internships at UCC, and we're incredibly grateful that they have shared their gifts with us while exploring their calls to ministry. Come say farewell at a reception this Sunday evening at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall and enjoy the ice cream sundae bar provided in their honor!
Please note: Creepy ice cream man (pictured left) will NOT be in attendance.

Register now for this year's UCC Youth Back-to-School Retreat!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  All youth entering grades 6-12 are invited to the annual Back-to-School Retreat, scheduled for August 12-14. Over the weekend our youth and adult sponsors and teachers will travel to Briarwood Retreat Center near Flower Mound for group building, prayer, fellowship, worship, small groups, and fun.
The group will meet at UCC at 7 p.m. on Friday night and return to the church in time for Sunday school. Cost is $95 per participant and scholarships are available upon request. This is a great way to get to know other youth and adult leaders as we begin a new year, so be sure not to miss it! All ladies invited for ice cream and bowling at "Cool & Sweet"

"Cool & Sweet" is the girl's response to the recent men's "Fire and Meat" event! Ladies of all ages are invited to be a part of the bowling and ice cream fun at Lucky Strike Lanes (2845 W. 7th Street) on Sunday August 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. Cost is $20 and covers bowling, shoe rental and sundaes! The last day to sign up is this Sunday, August 7. Come by the table across from The Arches to add your name to the list, or contact Michelle Groom at mgroom@uccftw.com.

Called congregational meeting this Sunday after 11:00 worship

After hearing a presentation from the Senior Minister Search Committee, the UCC Assembly (comprised of elders, deacons, stewards, ministry chairs, and others in leadership) unanimously approved Rev. Larry Thomas as UCC's new Senior Minister on Wednesday night. There will be a congregational meeting this Sunday, August 7 in the sanctuary immediately after the 11:00 service to hear from the Senior Minister Search Committee and give final congregational approval for our next senior minister. All are encouraged to attend this important meeting. Childcare will be extended to last through the meeting. |

 Our youth ministry is excited to offer text alerts as a way to stay connected! Typical text alerts will include reminders for meetings and events, as well as time-sensitive announcements if an event is moved or canceled due to weather. After you sign up for alerts, you will automatically be added to the appropriate group (Chi Rho or CYF) as well as any events for which you register (camps, mission trips, retreats). That way you only receive texts that are relevant to YOU! Messages will go to parents AND youth to ensure everyone is on the same page, and we're committed to sending no more than two alerts per week to avoid straining your service plan.
