Weekly E-news
June 17, 2011
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
Dear youth and parents, I just returned on Wednesday night from a great Chi Rho Mission Trip to Austin. During the trip our group of 18 middle school youth and 5 adults spent time working at three different agencies, exploring the city, reflecting in small groups, worshiping together, and cooling off at Schlitterbahn Water Park. I hope to have photos posted in the next week, and I'll be sure to put a link in the e-news when they're up.
There's plenty to see in this week's e-news, including our first widely-broadcast invitation to sign up for UCC Youth text alerts (something we've been "beta testing" for a couple of months) plus reminders for VBS volunteers and upcoming youth outings. Read on for more and I'll see you at church soon!
Grace and Peace, Russ
Think reminders are helpful? Sign up for UCC Youth text alerts!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Our youth ministry is excited to offer text alerts as a way to stay connected! Typical text alerts will include reminders for meetings and events, as well as time-sensitive announcements if an event is moved or canceled due to weather. After you sign up for alerts, you will automatically be added to the appropriate group (Chi Rho or CYF) as well as any events for which you register (camps, mission trips, retreats). That way you only receive texts that are relevant to YOU! Messages will go to parents AND youth to ensure everyone is on the same page, and we're committed to sending no more than two alerts per week to avoid straining your service plan.
Sound good? Here's how to sign up: 1. Send the following text message to 1-423-299-3299:
Join #UCCFTW YourFirstName YourLastName
(Example: join #UCCFTW Russ Boyd) 2. You will receive a confirmation text. Reply YES to the confirmation. 3. You're done! We'll add you to the relevant groups and events. |
Training for youth VBS volunteers - choose Sunday or Tuesday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We've had a great response from middle and high school youth interested in volunteering with Vacation Bible School, and Kera Watts has set up two training options for youth volunteers to choose from: this Sunday, June 19, at 6 p.m. or this Tuesday, June 21 at 8:30 a.m. in Room 211. All youth VBS volunteers are required to attend one of the training sessions.
Interested in volunteering but haven't signed up yet? You can still download and print out a youth volunteer form by clicking here and attend one of the training sessions. Completed volunteer forms can be turned in to the children's ministry office or UCC's main reception desk, and more information is available at www.ucckids.org.
