Chi Rho missionaries depart for Austin this Sunday afternoon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A group of 18 middle school youth and 5 adults will be traveling to Austin this Sunday afternoon for the Chi Rho Mission Trip. They will be serving others at several mission sites during the day (Manos de Cristo, Capital Area Food Bank, and Elderhaven Adult Day Care) and enjoying fellowship, worship, and small groups in the evening. The group will return on Wednesday evening after a stop in New Braunfels to cool off at Schlitterbahn Water Park. Please keep our group in your prayers as they serve others in Christ's name! |
High school youth head to Athens for CYF Conference on Monday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
20 of UCC's 10th-12th grade youth will meet on Monday to travel to CYF Conference at Disciples Crossing, our church camp in Athens. During the week our group will join with youth and adults from other Disciples churches in the area to grow closer to God and one another on holy ground. Please keep this group in your prayers, and pick up a pre-addressed postcard in the Gallery on Sunday to send mail to one of our campers of counselors.
Parents: Remember to meet at UCC at 8 a.m. on Monday morning for the camp carpool! |
Welcome Summer Youth Ministry Interns to UCC!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This summer our youth ministry again welcomes two full-time interns who will be learning about ministry here at UCC. After advertising the positions nationally and accepting applications, the Youth Committee assisted the staff in selecting our interns:
Aly Gideon just completed her sophomore year at Chapman University in Orange, California and is majoring in Peace Studies and Political Science with a minor in Religion. Aly grew up in Texas and Oklahoma, and last summer served as an intern at Bethany Hills Camp and Conference Center near Nashville, Tennessee. She can be reached at aly@uccftw.com or 817.926.6631 ext. 148.
Judith Guy just completed her junior year at Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois where she is majoring in Religion and Philosophy. A native of Salina, Kansas, Judith has served as an intern at Camp Walter Scott in Dieterich, Illinois and just recently completed a semester abroad in India. She can be reached at judith@uccftw.com or 817.926.6631 ext. 148.
Judith and Aly were introduced in our worship services this past Sunday and will be with us until August 7. They will spend part of their time here providing leadership in the youth ministry in Sunday school, at youth events, on mission trips, at camps, and around the office. The rest of their time will be devoted to exploring their own calls to ministry by shadowing and learning from other ministers at UCC and in the Fort Worth area. Both interns will be keeping a journal that chronicles their experiences, and at the end of the summer each one will write a reflection paper that synthesizes what they will take away from the experience. Please give Aly and Judith a warm welcome as they join our staff for the summer and are introduced in all three worship services on Sunday!
Youth volunteers needed for Vacation Bible School 2011
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Kera Watts, Director of Children's Ministry: Feeling sad that you are too old to participate in VBS? Don't be-we NEED YOU! Take time during VBS week (June 21-24) to step back to your preschool or elementary days and share some of your energy, enthusiasm, and spirit with kids. More importantly, young children are looking up to you, think you are great, and want to be like you. Create relationships that will last years by spending time with kids during VBS teaching, learning, and having fun together.
You can download and print out a youth volunteer form by clicking here. We need to know you are coming so we can match you with the best job available, so please take the time to clear your calendar for June 21-24. Completed volunteer forms can be turned in to the children's ministry office or UCC's main reception desk, and more information is available at www.ucckids.org.
