Dear youth and parents, This Sunday I'll be a part of something that should be very memorable and I want to invite you to join me. I'm preaching for the last Sunday in the post-Easter series "Jesus Has Left The Building" at The Search, our alternative worship gathering in Fellowship Hall at 5 p.m. We will be worshipping around tables together, and the service will transition into a fellowship meal featuring..(drumroll please)...an Elvis impersonator! I know this will be a great ending to a series that has featured plenty of great Elvis songs (both gospel and pop) that have enriched each service. So...good worship, good food, good music, good people. Oh, and hopefully a good sermon. :-) Hope to see you there!
Grace and Peace, Russ

Youth volunteers needed for Vacation Bible School 2011
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Kera Watts, Director of Children's Ministry: Feeling sad that you are too old to participate in VBS? Don't be-we NEED YOU! Take time during VBS week (June 21-24) to step back to your preschool or elementary days and share some of your energy, enthusiasm, and spirit with kids. More importantly, young children are looking up to you, think you are great, and want to be like you. Create relationships that will last years by spending time with kids during VBS teaching, learning, and having fun together.
You can download and print out a youth volunteer form by clicking here. We need to know you are coming so we can match you with the best job available, so please take the time to clear your calendar for June 21-24. Completed volunteer forms can be turned in to the children's ministry office or UCC's main reception desk, and more information is available at www.ucckids.org.
UCC's youth ministry is looking for a few good volunteers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Ginger Alford, Youth Ministry Committee Chair: The Youth Ministry Committee is looking to the next programming year and we need your help! If you are interested in helping out with these specific jobs or have questions, contact me at gralford@charter.net. If these aren't quite right but you want to help in other ways...let me know that, too! Summer Camp Transportation Coordinator We need an adult who will work closely with Jessica Vacketta and Herb Murray to make sure we have enough drivers for transporting our youth safely to and from camps and other special events. This organized volunteer will need to know the nitty-gritty details of events and which youth will be attended in order to contact potential drivers to be sure we can get everyone where they need to be and communicate that plan to parents ahead of time. Planning begins in late May with camps and events throughout June and July. Back-to-School Retreat Coordinator We need an adult who loves getting to know the youth to work closely with Russ, Herb, and Jessica to plan and participate in portions of the annual Back-to-School Retreat planned for August 12-14. Planning begins in late June/early July. Parent Orientation Coordinator An adult is needed to coordinate the parent orientation event that is held at the start of the new school year. This person will be responsible for recruiting any other adults needed to setup the room for the event, plan information packets, prepare materials , advertise the event and work closely with Russ and the Youth Committee on the program. Planning begins in June and event is scheduled for August 21. |
Serve others on the Chi Rho or CYF Mission Trip this summer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UCC's middle and high school youth will be hitting the road to learn and serve on two mission trips this summer:
 The Chi Rho Mission Trip will take our youth in grades 6-8 to Austin from June 12-15. While there, they'll be serving others at several different agencies, including the Salvation Army, Elderhaven Adult Day Care, and Manos de Cristo before spending a day cooling off at Schlitterbahn Water Park in New Braunfels. Click here to download the registration flyer for more information.
Our 9th-12th grade youth will travel to Los Fresnos, Texas for the CYF Mission Trip, scheduled for June 25 - July 2. They will spend the week working at Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries, a Disciple mission agency committed to serving the "least of these" in the Rio Grande Valley. For details, click here for the registration flyer. |
Last call for summer camp registrations ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Youth and children from Pre-K through 12th grade have the opportunity to grow closer to God and one another this summer at Disciples Crossing, our church camp in Athens. There are nine different camps spread across the summer, each with a different focus. To see a full list of camp descriptions, dates, and prices, click here. For a registration form, click here. And for a tally sheet, click here. The regular price registration deadline has passed, but we can still register youth for most camps with a $40 late fee.
