Chi Rho Midwinter Retreat rescheduled for April 1-3

Dear youth and parents,

Sorry for how late you're getting the e-news this week.  After the church was closed last week and overtaken by Ministers Week this week, I had a childcare mixup that required me to leave this morning and return to the office at 5 to finish up.  I'm definitely looking forward to good weather and less craziness in our building next week so that life here can get back to normal!

There are SO many ways to get involved listed in this week's e-news, so read on for lots of new and exciting opportunities!

Grace and Peace,
Russ

Breakfast clipartIt's time once again for Breakfast with the Guys, a quartlery event open to youth that's hosted by UCC's Men's Ministry.  The second of these intergenerational breakfasts is this Saturday, February 12 at 8:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall and Dr. Brent Beasley, pastor of Broadway Baptist Church, will be the speaker.  A $5 donation is requested to help cover expenses.  Invite a friend and come enjoy a great speaker and fellowship over a tasty breakfast this Saturday morning!

From Jessica Vacketta:
This Sunday night the high school youth group will be working on various service projects at church. Youth will prepare materials and plan out a service project, H20 Project: Water for All,

part of UCC's month-long Week of Compassion celebration. Other youth and sponsors will work on the Prom Dreams space and some will help clean out the old youth lounge so that we have room to store the Garage Sale donations.

We'll be following our normal Sunday night schedule: snack supper at 6 p.m. in the 3rd Floor kitchen followed by youth group from 6:30 -7:45.

Interested in a summer mission pilgrimage to Nicaragua?

At CYF Conference a couple of years ago, keynoter Laurie Feille shared stories about Project Chaocente, a mission organization that helps adults and children living on the city dumping site in Managua, Nicaragua to move out. UCC camper Katie Puckett and her small group were so moved by the stories that they committed to organize a trip to Nicaragua to help.  Katie is now a college freshman, and because of her determination and lots of help from Cyndy Twedell and others the mission pilgrimage is happening this summer!

The intergenerational trip (ages 16 and up) will take place July 26 - August 2 and the cost (without fundraising) is approximately $1200 per person. There is an informational meeting at UCC next Saturday, February 19, at 5 p.m. If you are interested in going on this trip, please do two things: use this link to download and complete the interest form and contact Cyndy Twedell at cyndy@uccftw.com

Katie has been writing a great blog that tells all about the origin of the trip, the work she and others are doing to prepare, and her progress as she runs 600 miles (!) before the day the trip begins to raise money.  Click here to visit her blog, "Running (to the) Well."

Prom Dreams grand opening soon - here's how you can help!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prom dresses
We are now in the final stages of remodeling the Prom Dreams space above the Children's Closet in preparation for the March 19 grand opening. An intergenerational committee is forming and will meet next Thursday, February 17 at 6 p.m. to discuss and assign jobs that need to be done before the grand opening, determine hours of operation, and create a list of volunteer positions needed to make this mission run smoothly this spring and in the years to come.
At this point, we need volunteers to:
  • Make slip-covers for couch cushions and pillows
  • Make dressing room curtains
  • Hang mirrors
  • Transport large mirrors that need to be cut into smaller sections
  • Contact guidance counselors at the local high schools
  • Design promotional materials
If you are interested in serving on the Prom Dreams Committee or if you have the skills and time to help with the tasks listed above, please contact Jessica Vacketta, jessica@uccftw.com.
