 Weekly E-news
November 24, 2010
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
Dear youth and parents, I'm keeping the e-news simple this week because we have ONE MASSIVE EVENT on Sunday: Hanging of the Greens. Each year our youth lead the congregation in this beloved service, and it's that time once again. It takes SO MANY youth to make the service happen, and we need every available 6th-12th grader here on Sunday.
"But Russ," you say, "I don't even know how this service works! How will I know what to do?" Easy: Show up for rehearsal on Sunday afternoon, and our ministers and adult volunteers will show you where to stand, when and where to walk, and how to hang the greenery. (If you'd like to read, they'll hand you a script and help you with that, too.) Then, at 6:45, everyone will be delighted by the service and your leadership. Sounds too good to be true, right? WRONG. It is just good enough to still be true.
Also, we had an incredible Thanksgiving feast at youth groups this past Sunday night! Thanks so much to all the youth and parents who participated and brought dishes, to Robin Nelson for going above-and-beyond as the snack supper volunteer for that night, and to Jessica for thinking up and organizing the dinner. Can't wait for the next one!
Grace and Peace, Russ
Wondering about baptism? Register for the Disciples Class!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Any youth in grades 6-12 interested in learning more about baptism and church membership is welcome to be part of our first ever Disciples Class! The 12-week class will meet on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. starting on January 9 and conclude with a day retreat on April 16. Each participant will be part of an age-based small group led by an adult mentor, and youth who have already been baptized or previously participated in the Faith Development Class are welcome to attend as a "refresher course." The class will be offered every year, alternating between Sunday mornings (in odd years) and evenings (in even years).
Click here for a detailed FAQ sheet about the Disciples Class, and e-mail Sharyn Peterson at sharyn@uccftw.com to register. The registration cutoff for this year's class will be December 5.
