Dear youth and parents,

I had a wonderful time with our middle school youth at the Chi Rho Fall Retreat this past weekend, and I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to connect with them on holy ground at Disciples Crossing.  I've already heard from many of them that they're looking forward to the Chi Rho Midwinter Retreat, scheduled for February 4-6.

There are MANY opportunities for youth to get involved here at UCC this weekend, covering a broad spectrum of ministries.  Youth can welcome home troops at the airport on Saturday morning, play quidditch in Fellowship Hall on Saturday night, train to serve as a Room in the Inn volunteer on Sunday afternoon, and help lead our congregation in worship at The Search on Sunday night.  Read on for more info, and I hope to see you at one of these events this weekend!

Oh, and one more thing: Any time you see a Find us on Facebook after a headline in the e-news, click it to access the related Facebook event and RSVP (or invite others).

Grace and Peace,
Russ

To celebrate the theatrical release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
, all youth in grades 6-12 are invited to a special Harry Potter event this Saturday night.  We'll be playing the muggle version of Quidditch (the official sport of the wizarding world) in Fellowship Hall, we'll have a viewing of the last Harry Potter film in JourneyLand's Parable Pictures theater room, and we'll have a variety of tasty snacks and beverages featured in the books and movies.  The fun will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. this Saturday.  If you're planning to play quidditch, be sure to wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes and bring a broom.

Youth Sunday at The Search this Sunday at 5 p.m.

iFaith graphic for The Search Youth in grades 6-12 will be leading The Search, our alternative worship service, this Sunday night at 5 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  Over the last few weeks, our youth have planned the service, prepared sermons, written prayers, and created prayer stations.  As part of the iFaith series that looks at the connection between pop music and our faith, the service will focus on Ecclesiastes 3:9-14a and the song "Live Like We're Dying" by Kris Allen.  We hope to see you there!

Youth: Remember to be in Fellowship Hall at 3 p.m. to set up prayer stations and rehearse the service.  If you don't have a part assigned, we still need plenty of help setting up, greeting worshippers, and serving communion.

Art chalice Any youth in grades 6-12 interested in learning more about baptism and church membership is welcome to be part of our first ever Disciples Class!  The 12-week class will meet on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. starting on January 9 and conclude with a day retreat on April 16.  Each participant will be part of an age-based small group led by an adult mentor, and youth who have already been baptized or previously participated in the Faith Development Class are welcome to attend as a "refresher course."  The class will be offered every year, alternating between Sunday mornings (in odd years) and evenings (in even years).

Click here for a detailed FAQ sheet about the Disciples Class, and e-mail Sharyn Peterson at [email protected] to register.  The registration cutoff for this year's class will be December 5.
