Keep up with UCC Youth on Facebook and Twitter

Dear youth and parents,

Though I had a wonderful vacation last week, I hate that I missed out on UCC's first Trunk-or-Treat event.  I heard wonderful things from parents, children, youth, and volunteers of all ages, and the pictures of the event certainly back that up.  Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen, and especially to our youth who created the haunted house and helped with children at activities throughout the evening.

There are lots of things coming up this weekend for youth, including a rock climbing outing, an all-church stewardship celebration, and the registration deadline for the CYF Fall Retreat.  Though Sunday school classes will not meet, youth will still gather for refreshments and announcements from 9:45 - 10 on Sunday morning and we'll have our regular Sunday evening schedule with Snack Supper at 6 p.m. and youth groups from 6:30 - 7:45.

Grace and Peace,
Russ

Youth rock climbing adventure tomorrow at Lake Mineral Wells
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Want to spend a day enjoying God's beautiful creation while the Fall weather is still nice?  Come to Lake Mineral Wells State Park for a youth rock climbing adventure tomorrow (Saturday, October 30)!  All youth in grades 6-12 are invited, and veteran rock climbers Pam and Keith Miller will serve as our guides for a safe, fun day.  All you have to do is show up ready to learn! (Not interested in climbing?  There are plenty of great hiking trails to explore around the lake.)
We'll be meeting at UCC at 8 a.m. to carpool to Mineral Wells, and should return around 2 p.m.  Wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes, and bring at least $12 to cover the climbing fee and lunch in Weatherford on the way home.
  RSVP's are required to ensure that we have enough drivers.  Just e-mail Sharyn at sharyn@uccftw.com to reserve your spot, or to volunteer as a driver/adult chaperone for the day.  Also, click here to download the parental consent form that will be required that day for each youth to climb.
All-church Stewardship Celebration during Sunday school hour
All Sunday school classes for adults, youth, and children will not meet this Sunday (October 31) so that everyone can participate in a Stewardship Celebration starting at 10 a.m. Come to Fellowship Hall for  music, food, and fun for the whole family as we celebrate God's generosity and our response through stewardship. If you have not yet made your pledge for 2011, you can do so online by clicking here.
Youth will gather
for food and announcements as usual in Room 303 starting at 9:45, then go to Fellowship Hall together at 10 a.m. for the celebration.
Register by this Sunday for CYF Fall Retreat at Disciples Crossing
Our youth in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to join high schoolers from Disciple churches around the area for the CYF Fall Retreat coming up November 19-21 at Disciples Crossing, our church camp in Athens.  This annual retreat offers the opportunity to grow closer to God and one another through worship, recreation, prayer, small groups, and interest groups that include options like sports, dance, art, service, photography, and more.
Our youth will meet at UCC at 5:30 p.m. that Friday to share a charter bus to camp, and will return around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.  The cost for the retreat is $80 and full or half scholarships are available upon request.  Registration forms are due to the Youth Office by this Sunday, October 31, and you can download one by clicking here.
We're continuing to roll out new ways to keep up with youth happenings here at UCC, and there are several more to share this week.  After introducing our new Google calendar to make it easier to keep up with events over the course of the year, we now have several social media options to help you stay connected:
Facebook logoClick here to visit the UCC Youth page on Facebook, and click "Like" to start seeing pictures, info, and events in your news feed.  This "fan page" is also a great way to introduce our youth ministry to others, so feel free to use the "Suggest to Friends" link to, well, suggest it to friends.
We also have two new Facebook groups that can send news and event invitations to you much more directly than the "fan page."  Click here to visit and join the Chi Rho group for grades 6-8, or click here for the CYF group for grades 9-12.
Twitter logoClick here to visit our Twitter feed, and be sure to follow UCC_Youth to get short reminders and links to the e-news and other relevant content.  If you're somewhat Twitter savvy, you can "re-tweet" things from UCC Youth that you'd like to share with others.
