Dear youth and parents, We had a great turnout for last Saturday's CYF Day event, with nearly 500 youth and adults packed into Fellowship Hall for a meaningful pre-game worship service and over 150 returning for an after-party following the game. I want to thank the Search band for providing great music in the worship service, Drew Ruiz and Suzanne Castle for organizing the band's participation; Herb, Jessica, and Chris Benavente for their staff support throughout the busy day; and all of UCC's adult and youth volunteers who helped sell t-shirts, lead worship, carry supplies, clean up Fellowship Hall, and generally make our guests feel welcome. I'm looking forward to an even better CYF Day next year!
Grace and Peace, Russ

Chi Rho Fall Retreat at Disciples Crossing - Register by Sunday!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our youth in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to join middle schoolers from Disciple churches around the area for the Chi Rho Fall Retreat coming up November 5-7 at Disciples Crossing, our church camp in Athens. This annual retreat offers the opportunity to grow closer
to God and one another through worship, recreation, prayer, small groups, and
interest groups that include options like sports, dance, art, service,
photography, and more.
Our youth will meet at UCC at 5:30 p.m. that Friday to share a charter bus to camp, and will return around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The cost for the retreat is $80 and full or half scholarships are available upon request. Registration forms are due to the Youth Office by this Sunday, October 17, and you can download one by clicking here. Parents: We will need adult chaperones to attend the retreat as well. If you're interested in attending the retreat as an adult sponsor, contact Herb Murray at herb@uccftw.com.
Bring a song to youth group this week for Youth Sunday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~ UCC's youth will be leading worship at The Search on November 14, and our first step toward preparing for the service will take place at youth groups this Sunday night. Youth Sunday at The Search will be part of the annual iFaith series, where each service centers around a "non-religious" song that speaks to our faith. In preparation for this year's service, youth are invited to bring a song to youth groups that might be a good theme for Youth Sunday. Chi Rho and CYF will spend the beginning of youth group listening to the songs, reading the lyrics, and talking about what they mean for our faith, which one we should use as our theme, and what scripture reading we might pair with the song.
If you have a song in mind, please e-mail your suggestion to Jessica Vacketta at jessica@uccftw.com by this Sunday at noon so that we can have lyrics printed out on Sunday night. Youth are encouraged to bring a CD or iPod with their song to play for the group.

CROP Walk to end hunger this Sunday afternoon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  The annual CROP Walk to support hunger relief will take place this Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. All participants from churches throughout Fort Worth will meet at TCU's Dee J. Kelly Alumni Center (on Stadium Drive) at 2 p.m. to get ready for the 3.1 mile walk. Many of our youth have found sponsors and collected donations for the event, but you're welcome to walk in solidarity with the hungry even if you haven't. This year half of the proceeds will support the Tarrant Area Food Bank, and half will go to relief efforts in Sudan. There are trophies and prizes for churches with the most youth, total participants, fastest finisher, and more, so lace up some comfortable shoes, feel free to bring a pet or a stroller, and come walk this weekend! |
Save the date for a rock climbing adventure on October 30
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~ Want to spend a day enjoying God's beautiful creation while the Fall weather is still nice? Come to Lake Mineral Wells State Park for a youth rock climbing adventure on Saturday, October 30! All youth in grades 6-12 are invited, and veteran rock climbers Pam and Keith Miller will serve as our guides for a safe, fun day. All you have to do is show up ready to learn! (Not interested in climbing? There are plenty of great hiking trails to explore around the lake.)
We'll be meeting at UCC at 8 a.m. to carpool to Mineral Wells, and should return around 2 p.m. Wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes, and bring at least $12 to cover the climbing fee ($3) and lunch in Weatherford on the way home. RSVP's are required to ensure that we have enough drivers. Just e-mail Sharyn at sharyn@uccftw.com to reserve your spot, or to volunteer as a driver/adult chaperone for the day.
