Dear youth and parents, It's been a busy week here in the youth office as we made final preparations for the Chi Rho Mission Trip and welcomed our Summer Youth Ministry Interns, Will Brown and Hannah Fisher. Read on for more info on our new interns, the mission trip, and lots of summer fellowship events for youth. Also, I wante  d you to know that a group of our youth made their way to DFW Airport at 6:30 a.m. on Memorial Day to welcome home troops flying back from overseas. CYF sponsor Patricia Smith invited the high school Sunday school class on Sunday morning, and was pleasantly surprised that an enthusiastic group decided to join her and Jessica Vacketta bright and early for the trip. They even made the local news! Kudos to Sam Alford, Patrick & Timothy Alland, Taylor Morton, Sheridan Ruiz, Shelby Smith, and Katie Swanson for choosing to forgo a morning they could sleep in and instead provide a warm welcome to those who serve. Summer Youth Ministry Interns begin their work at UCC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Tuesday, UCC welcomed our two Summer Youth Ministry Interns as they began their first of 10 weeks on our staff. Over the course of the summer, the interns will be teaching Sunday school, organizing and leading fellowship events, chaperoning mission trips, counseling church camps, assisting with office work, and exploring their own sense of calling in a variety of ministry experiences within and outside our church. Here's some info on the interns to help you get to know them better:
Will Brown is a rising Senior at TCU where he is majoring in Religious Studies and minoring in Communication. As a youth, he was active
in Disciple camps in the Upper Midwest while attending First Christian Church
of Ames, Iowa. Last summer he returned to Iowa to serve on staff at the
Christian Conference Center, the Disciple camp located in Newton. Will can be reached at will@uccftw.com or via phone at the church at extension 189.
 Hannah Fisher is a rising Junior at Truman
State University in Kirksville, Missouri where she is majoring in Psychology and minoring in Classical Studies. A native of Columbia, Missouri, Hannah was
very active at Broadway Christian Church as a youth and served as a youth
ministry intern there last summer. Hannah can be reached at hannah@uccftw.com or via phone at the church at extension 189.

First Sunday Lunch for parents and youth at Pappas Burger
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  All
youth and parents are invited to First Sunday Lunch this weekend.
Come to Pappas Burger (2700 West Freeway) following the 11
a.m. worship service where we'll have a dining room reserved for good
food and informal conversation. |
Chi Rho missionaries depart for Athens this Sunday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 A group of 7 middle school youth and 5 adults will be traveling to Athens, Texas this Sunday afternoon for the Chi Rho Mission Trip. They will be joining with middle schoolers and adults from Disciple churches around the area for worship, fellowship, and hard work on service projects at Disciples Crossing, our church camp. The group will return on Wednesday evening after a stop in Canton to cool off at a water park there. Please keep our group (and all the participants) in your prayers.

UCC Youth summer activities - join the fun! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We have a number of great fellowship events for youth coming up this summer, so be sure to mark your calendars! Here's what's in store:
Chi Rho (completed grades 6-8)
June 16: Science and History Museum / IMAX Theater - 9:45 a.m.
July 7: Outing to Main Event - 1:00 p.m.
July 28: Texas Rangers baseball game - 6:00 p.m.
July 31: Horseback riding and pool party at Midgleys' - 1:00 p.m.
CYF (completed grades 9-12)
June 23: Outing to play Whirlyball in Dallas - 12:30 p.m.
July 2: Trip to Granbury for movie at Brazos Drive-In - 7:30 p.m.
July 28: Texas Rangers baseball game - 6:00 p.m.
July 31: Dinner and ice skating in Arlington - 6:00 p.m.

Mission Trip Stock Sale continues Sunday morning in the Gallery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 This Sunday our congregation has an opportunity to buy stock
in our youth mission trips at the table located in the Gallery. At $10 per share, the
stock helps reduce the cost of each trip for participating youth and earns an
invitation to a "shareholders luncheon" at the end of the summer to hear about
the trips. If you or your child can't make the trip, this is a great way to support youth missions and get an exclusive report about the trips afterward. Just stop by the table in the Gallery Sunday morning after either service or Sunday school.

Youth volunteers needed for Vacation Bible School - June 15-18
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Youth in grades 6-12 are invited to volunteer for UCC's annual Vacation Bible School, scheduled for June 15-18 (Tuesday - Friday). This year's theme is "Going Green: The Earth Our Home" and youth can volunteer to help with preschool or grades K-3. There are many areas to volunteer, including recreation, storytelling, music, crafts, decorations, snacks, and serving as an assistant group leader. Summer camp and mission trip registration continues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  The deadline for the early bird discount has passed, but you can still register for summer camps and the CYF Mission Trip.
