Dear youth and parents,
As summer approaches we're preparing for a lot of exciting things in UCC's youth ministry! We have two months of church camps at Disciples Crossing, mission trips to Athens and Washington, volunteering at Vacation Bible School, lots of special summer fellowship events for Chi Rho and CYF, and our two summer interns (Will Brown and Hannah Fisher) arrive to begin work at the beginning of next week. It's a busy time for the youth ministry staff, but also a very rewarding time because we're able to spend longer stretches with the youth than we can during the school year. I've often heard that more is accomplished in terms of spiritual formation and community building in one week-long camp or mission trip than in six months of weekly Sunday school classes or youth group meetings. That has absolutely proven correct in my experience, and I'm looking forward to seeing that kind of growth again this summer. Read on for details on what's in store!

UCC Youth summer activities - join the fun! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We have a number of great fellowship events for youth coming up this summer, so be sure to mark your calendars! Here's what's in store:
Chi Rho (completed grades 6-8)
June 16: Science and History Museum / IMAX Theater - 9:45 a.m.
July 7: Outing to Main Event - 1:00 p.m.
July 28: Texas Rangers baseball game - 6:00 p.m.
July 31: Horseback riding and pool party at Midgleys' - 1:00 p.m.
CYF (completed grades 9-12)
June 23: Outing to play Whirlyball in Dallas - 12:30 p.m.
July 2: Trip to Granbury for movie at Brazos Drive-In - 7:30 p.m.
July 28: Texas Rangers baseball game - 6:00 p.m.
July 31: Dinner and ice skating in Arlington - 6:00 p.m.
All these events (and camp/mission trip reminders) will be on the summer events postcard that will arrive in your mailboxes shortly.

Sunday night youth group meetings on break for summer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Last Sunday night, May 23, was the last night of Chi Rho and CYF youth groups for this school year. Regular Sunday night programming for youth, children, and college students will start up again on August 22.
While Sunday night meetings are on break, there will be lots of special fellowship events for youth groups this summer! Watch your mailboxes this coming week for our summer event postcard, and mark your calendars for June and July.

Mission Trip Stock Sale begins Sunday morning in the Gallery

 This Sunday will be the first opportunity to buy stock
in our youth mission trips at the table located in the Gallery. At $10 per share, the
stock helps reduce the cost of each trip for participating youth and earns an
invitation to a "shareholders luncheon" at the end of the summer to hear about
the trips. If you or your child can't make the trip, this is a great way to support youth missions and get an exclusive report about the trips afterward. Just stop by the table in the Gallery Sunday morning after either service or Sunday school.

Youth volunteers needed for Vacation Bible School - June 15-18
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Youth in grades 6-12 are invited to volunteer for UCC's annual Vacation Bible School, scheduled for June 15-18 (Tuesday - Friday). This year's theme is "Going Green: The Earth Our Home" and youth can volunteer to help with preschool or grades K-3. There are many areas to volunteer, including recreation, storytelling, music, crafts, decorations, snacks, and serving as an assistant group leader. Summer camp and mission trip registration continues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  The deadline for the early bird discount has passed, but you can still register for summer camps and the CYF Mission Trip. The tally sheet linked below has been updated with the regular camp registration costs, so if you're ready to register for a summer camp or mission trip...
