Dear youth and parents,

Greetings from sunny Arizona!  Anna and I just wrapped up three wonderful days at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale where we attended this year's Disciples Youth Ministry Network gathering.  (Unfortunately Jessica was embroiled in midterms at Brite this week and we couldn't arrange to get her out here with us.)  This event was an excellent time of renewal, fellowship, connections, and challenging keynotes from Mark DeVries, president of Youth Ministry Architects.  We'll be making a stop at In-N-Out Burger on the way to the airport here in a few minutes, and we'll both be back with you on Sunday morning.  I'm especially looking forward to taking some of the new things I've learned (and old things that have been reinforced) and applying them to our youth ministry at UCC.  Take a look at a couple of new items in the weekly news below, and I'll look forward to seeing you after we return!

Grace and Peace,
Russ

Registration open for Generation Change for high schoolers

UCC's youth ministry is excited to again offer Generation Change, an 8-week class that adapts Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University for a high school audience.  Through videos, activities, and discussion, class participants will learn about real value, materialism, money sense, and giving from a Christian perspective.  The class will be taught by Stuart Smith, Sara Tinsley, and Price Tinsley during the Sunday school hour (10:00 - 10:50 a.m.) starting March 28, and the $20 participant cost covers a workbook and t-shirt. The class is limited to 14 participants, so be sure to e-mail Sharyn Peterson at sharyn@uccftw.com to register!  For a bit more detail, download the informational flyer by clicking here.

Youth Night Out coming on March 12...do you like Sardines?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sardines in a can All youth in grades 6-12 are invited for a night of fun at UCC on Friday, March 12 as we play the classic hide-and-seek game Sardines!  Youth and adult sponsors will meet at the church at 7 p.m. and the games will wrap up at 10.  Youth should bring $5 to help cover pizza (no sardines), snacks, and drinks for the evening.  Start thinking of a good hiding place, and we'll see you on March 12!
Mark your calendars for youth mission trips this summer!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WheelbarrowWe have two excellent youth mission trips in store this summer, so be sure to mark your calendar and save the dates!  Our Chi Rho youth (grades 6-8) will travel to Athens, Texas for several days of service projects at our church camp, Disciples Crossing.  We will be joined by Chi Rho youth from Disciple churches in the area (Arlington, Cleburne, Granbury, Weatherford, and our neighbors at South Hills).  Dates of the trip (assuming the Fort Worth ISD schedule cooperates) will be June 6-9.  The estimated cost (after fundraising money is applied) will be $150.

Our high school youth will travel to Yakama Christian Mission, a Disciple mission center located on a reservation in White Swan, Washington.  Our projects will depend on their needs, but will likely include construction work and staffing local summer programs for children.  The trip will take place July 18-25, and will include flights to and from Portland or Seattle (depending on prices).  The estimated cost (after fundraising money is applied) will be $300.

Anna's staff photo All of the finalized summer camp dates for 2010 have been posted online, and you can view or download them as a PDF  file by clicking here.  This year there are ten different camps to choose from, covering kindergarten through recent high school grads.  All camps will take place at Disciples Crossing, our church camp in Athens.

While you're looking over those dates, mark your calendar for Camp Sunday on April 11.  Our ministry assistant, Sharyn Peterson, will be set up in Fellowship Hall that morning to get you registered for summer camps and mission trips in time for the early bird deadlines.
