Dear youth and parents, I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving this past week. Sarah and I definitely enjoyed a few restful days with my side of the family in Virginia. After we returned it was great to see so many of you participating in the Hanging of the Greens and in the special Advent kickoff at The Search. Every year I hear from so many people who appreciate our youth leading us in worship as we decorate UCC's sanctuary for the seasons of Advent and Christmas. All of the practice and dedication really makes a difference for so many in this congregation, so thank you to everyone who participated or attended! This Sunday my Army Reserve unit will be having its annual family day and holiday party, so as the Chaplain I will be fulfilling one of my duties by assisting our Family Readiness Group (FRG) with the event. FRG's are an incredible asset to military families, providing support and encouragement to soldiers, spouses, and children that's especially critical before, during, and after a deployment. Click here to learn more about how FRG's help families overcome the challenges that are part of military life, and how you can help. I'll look forward to seeing many of you Sunday evening at The Search and youth groups! Grace and Peace, Russ |
Two youth schedule changes - update your calendars!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are two changes to our youth calendar, and I want to be sure you have the updated info to save the dates:
1. The 5th Annual Chi Rho Lock-In, originally scheduled for December 18, will take place on Friday night, April 23. We had a scheduling conflict arise here at the church, and it made sense to move the lock-in to a date when we'll have free reign in the building.
2. The TBA Outdoor Education Committee recently had to make some changes to the summer camp schedule at Disciples Crossing. As a result, Niner's Camp for youth currently in 9th grade will take place July 5-10 (originally the camp was scheduled for June 28 - July 3). All other camps will stay on their original dates.
First Sunday Lunch at Pappas Burger this weekend
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  All youth in grades 6-12 and parents are invited to First Sunday Lunch on December 6. Come to Pappas Burger (2700 West Freeway) following the 11 a.m. worship service for good food and informal conversation.
Note from Isaac for high schoolers: All youth interested in having influence
over the course of CYF next semester will sit together for food, fellowship,
and formulating. We'll discuss what we'll be doing for fun, what we'll be
diving into regarding our faith and the Bible, and figuring out what we'd like to do differently in 2010. Bring your thinking caps and your ideas for how to make
CYF at UCC even better!

CYF outing to Six Flags Holiday in the Park on December 19
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From Isaac Varner, Assistant Minister for CYF:
 Mark your calendar and prepare for a winter wonderland at
Six Flags on December 19! All interested high school youth will gather at UCC at 1:30 p.m., head to Six Flags to experience fun rides and shows, and be back
at the church by 8:30 p.m. In order to get discount tickets we need to know if
you are going. Please sign up at the church during youth group or Sunday
School, or e-mail me at isaac@uccftw.com with the number of tickets you will need. With enough
people going, we should be able to get tickets for under $20 (dinner and souvenirs are extra). We look forward to sharing the holidays with you!
