Weekly E-news

Dear youth and parents, I mentioned in last weeks e-news that it was going to be a busy Sunday, and every special event in that one day turned out beautifully. Our youth had a great experience in the morning as they mingled with Jewish and Muslim youth at Beth-El Congregation while learning more about Judaism. Youth (individuals and teams) entered four cakes in the cake bake-off at the potluck luncheon on Sunday afternoon, and one of those youth cakes beat out the 12 other entries to earn the belltower trophy. And scores of children and parents made their way from room to room on the 3rd floor for fun Halloween-themed activities staffed by our youth on Sunday evening. Thanks to all of the youth and adults who made these three events so great! Also, I wanted to share that CYF sponsor Doug Cox will be heading to New York this weekend to run in the NYC Marathon. Here's a note from Doug about how we can keep up with him: "If you're interested in
tracking my progress through the marathon, you can register on-line at the ING
NYC Marathon website to have e-mail updates sent to you automatically as I
complete every 3.1 miles (5K) of the run all the way to the finish line. Just click here and follow the directions to sign up for the 'Athlete
Alert'. My bib # is 25175." Who will be the next youth ministry volunteer to run a marathon? Feel free to e-mail me your suggestions and I'll pass along the encouragement. Grace and Peace, Russ |
Next parking lot fundraiser - Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UCC's youth and parents have an
opportunity to raise money again this Saturday, October 31 by parking cars for the big TCU-UNLV homecoming game. Each hour worked by
youth and/or parents earns credit toward registration costs for camps, mission
trips, and the ski retreat (plus funds for UCC's youth
ministry to use for scholarships and 3rd floor improvements). The last few games have brought in over $50 of credit per volunteer on average.
Volunteers should sign in by 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Kickoff will be at 3 p.m.
Youth Trialogue continues on November 8 at UCC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UCC's youth in grades 7-10 joined with Jewish and Muslim youth for the first session of a three-part "trialogue" on Sunday, October 25 at Beth-El Congregation. The series will continue on November 8 when we welcome Jewish and Muslim youth to UCC for a program focused on Christianity. UCC's participants should meet in Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m. to prepare for our guests.
A couple of notes about the trialogue:
- This event will take the place of Chi Rho boys/girls and CYF Alpha (grades 9-10) Sunday school classes. Faith Development Class and CYF Omega (grades 11-12) will still meet.
- The final event will be hosted by our Muslim neighbors on November 15 at the Islamic Association of Tarrant County.

Mark your calendar for Youth Sunday at The Search - Nov. 15
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Make plans now to worship at The Search on November 15 at 5 p.m. as our middle and high schoolers lead the service. Youth will be planning worship and assigning parts at Sunday evening youth groups on November 1 and 8. This year's service will be part of the popular iFaith series at The Search that examines a different scripture and pop song each week to see how the two might inform or reflect the life of faith.
