Dear youth and parents,

Saturday was one of those crazy days that happen surprisingly often in youth ministry: youth and parents parked hundreds of cars in our lots for the TCU-SMU game; over 350 youth and adults from around the region filled Fellowship Hall for food, campus tours, and worship as part of the annual CYF Day event sponsored by TCU; during the rainy game our worship space was converted into a play space with basketball goals, giant inflatables, pizza, drinks, and music for a "5th quarter" post-game event; over 100 CYF Day participants returned for the party and stayed until after 11; and around 40 participants spent the night in the 3rd floor classrooms and joined us for worship at the 8:45 a.m. worship service.  A crazy day, but a great day.

I want to say thanks to all of the parents, youth, volunteers, and staff who helped park cars, direct guests, sell t-shirts, set up/convert/clean Fellowship Hall, and more.  Thanks also to 5 Smooth Stones (the house band from The Search) for providing great music and worship leadership at the event.  Our team effort really made an impact, and I heard many compliments from TCU staff and our guests from other churches about UCC's hospitality and flexibility.  I pray that in the years to come we will be known to even more people as a welcoming place, and I invite you to help make that prayer a reality by showing hospitality the next time you have the opportunity.

Grace and Peace,
Russ

Youth Night Out for Chi Rho - next Friday, October 16
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All 6th-8th graders are invited to a Youth Night Out on Friday night, October 16 at Putt Putt in Hurst.  We have a group deal booked from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., and for $15 each person will receive unlimited access to go-karts, mini-golf, and other rides, along with 20 gameroom tokens.  We will meet here at the church at 7 p.m. to carpool to Hurst, and return at 10 p.m.  You may also meet us there (609 NE Loop 820, Pipeline Rd. exit) at 7:30 or get picked up at 9:30.
In order to ensure that we have enough drivers, please RSVP by e-mailing Sharyn so that we can get a count.  Youth are welcome to bring friends.  Parents: If you're available to drive and/or chaperone, e-mail Anna to let her know.
CROP Walk and free luncheon - Sunday afternoon, October 18
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CROP Walk graphic People from churches around Fort Worth will gather at TCU on Sunday, October 18 at 1:30 p.m. for the CROP Walk, an annual event that raises money (and awareness) to end hunger.  UCC will be walking again this year, and we'll even have a complimentary lunch for all walkers at 12:15 p.m. in Fellowship Hall before we head over to the Alumni Center for the walk.  While walking is great, raising funds by getting sponsors is even better.  Click here to register online and use the tools there to record your sponsors and fundraising, or stop by the table in the Gallery this Sunday morning to pick up a packet.  This year, part of the money will go to Church World Service, and part will stay local to support the food bank's BackPacks for Kids program.

Competitive note: Last year we took home three trophies (most walkers, most youth, and first finisher) and this year we hope to earn those awards again.  If you're available on October 18 (youth, parents, siblings), come on out and join the fun!

Chi Rho Fall Retreat is coming November 6-8 - register now!

Campfire graphic The annual Chi Rho Fall Retreat for youth in grades 6-8 will take place November 6-8 at Disciples Crossing, our church camp in Athens.  The theme this year is "RE: Worship" and over the course of the weekend, our youth and adults will focus on RE:alizing, RE:claiming, and RE:vitalizing worship.  Registration forms are due in the Youth Office by Wednesday, October 14. The cost is $80 and scholarship assistance is available upon request.  Registration forms are available in the Youth Office or online at www.uccyouth.org.

NOTE: The Journal article and youth calendars listed the date for this retreat as November 13-14.  After they both went to press, we received updated information from the Trinity-Brazos Area indicating that the retreat would be November 6-8.

Next parking lot fundraiser - Saturday, October 17 at Noon

Anna's staff photo UCC's youth and parents have an opportunity to raise money again on Saturday, October 17 by parking cars for the big TCU-Colorado State game.  Each hour worked by youth and/or parents earns credit toward registration costs for camps, mission trips, and the ski retreat (plus funds for UCC's youth ministry to use for scholarships and 3rd floor improvements).  The last two games have brought in over $50 of credit per volunteer.

Volunteers should sign in by 12:30 p.m. on October 17.  Kickoff will be at 3 p.m.
