Dear youth and parents,

It's been a busy week here at UCC, and a lot of good has come from our hard work.  On Tuesday night, the UCC Assembly unanimously approved the call of Houston Bowers as our Transitional Minister.  After having lunch with Houston while he was in town to interview for the position, I can say without reservation that I'm excited to welcome him to our church.  He's a gifted and seasoned minister with great interpersonal skills, and I'm looking forward to working with him on staff in the coming months.

On Wednesday night our youth Sunday school teachers gathered for their orientation, and on Thursday our youth group sponsors attended a training event to prepare them for the new year.  Again, I'm excited about this incredible team of laypeople who will be sharing their time and gifts with our youth in Sunday school, youth groups, and at other events throughout the year.  I hope you'll stop by the 3rd floor on a Sunday morning or evening to meet them and let them know we're thankful for their ministry.  Want a full list of these intrepid volunteers?  Pick up a parent packet from the Youth Office the next time you're at church for a full directory of staff, volunteers, and youth.  Read on for more about that and other news, and have a blessed Labor Day weekend!

Grace and Peace,
Russ

Anna Ross becomes Assistant Minister for Chi Rho

Anna's staff photo Anna Ross completed her undergraduate coursework at TCU this summer, and will now be taking on more office hours and responsibility on staff.  To reflect these changes, Anna's title has officially changed from Youth Ministry Intern to Assistant Minister for Chi Rho.  In addition to more time in the office and out with middle school youth and volunteers, you can also expect to see Anna in worship leadership on Sunday mornings.  Anna will be in the office all day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and can still be reached at extension 268 or anna@uccftw.com. Be sure to let her know how much you appreciate her gifts and dedication as part of the youth ministry staff here at UCC!

Small UCC youth logo Missed the meeting for all parents of youth this past Sunday?  Stop by the Youth Office and pick up a parent packet that includes a 12 month calendar of youth events and a directory of youth, volunteers, and staff.  And while you're there, be sure to sign up for one of the many volunteer opportunities for parents this year.  You can pick up a packet from Sharyn any weekday from 9-4, or ask one of the youth ministers on Sunday morning.  If you'd like a copy of the calendar now, you can download it as a PDF file by clicking here or visiting www.uccyouth.org.

Youth volunteer opportunities coming up
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are two major events coming up that will benefit greatly from youth volunteers:
1. On Wednesday, September 9, volunteers of all ages will gather in Fellowship Hall to prepare 1,800 school uniforms for distribution at our annual Children's Closet "Bag-It Night" from 6-8 p.m.  Youth are needed at 4:30 p.m. to move boxes from around the building to Fellowship Hall, and a pizza dinner will be provided for all youth who are part of the early volunteer crew.
2. Our church will gather outside on Sunday afternoon, September 13 to kick off fall programming with a churchwide picnic immediately after the 11 a.m. worship service.  Youth helpers are needed to assist with face painting, photography, a cake walk, making balloon animals, and general setup and teardown of tables and chairs.
Watch for sign-up sheets on Sunday mornings for both of these volunteer opportunities!
TCU football kicks off, youth raise money parking cars
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TCU LogoA new season of college football is upon us, and UCC's youth and parents have an opportunity to raise money by parking cars for TCU games.  Each hour worked by youth and/or parents earns credit toward registration costs for camps, mission trips, and the ski retreat, as well as funds for UCC's youth ministry to use for scholarships and 3rd floor improvements.  Be sure to put the games below on your calendar, and stay tuned for details on TCU's first game on September 19 against Texas State.  (Note: Time listed is for kickoff, not the time to be present to park cars.)
