Helpful information for UCC youth and parents
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
|
Dear youth and parents,
There's a lot coming up this week as summer wraps up and we prepare for a new school year here at UCC. Tomorrow our middle schoolers will be swimming at Burger's Lake, this weekend Youth Ministry Architects will be on site leading focus groups and working closely with our staff and lay leaders, and on Sunday night our Summer Interns have planned and will be leading The Search and we'll thank Carol Elliott for her service at a reception afterward. Read below for more info on all of these events.
I also wanted to share a note about about Youth Ministry Architects that I think is worth repeating. As the Youth Committee was thinking about partnering with YMA, one of the steps in the process involved checking with other churches who had been through the same process. Stacy McCoy contacted a friend at First United Methodist Church here in Fort Worth, a congregation that had partnered with YMA in the last year. Stacy's friend endorsed them enthusiastically, saying that partnering with YMA
is one of the best things their church has done and that their ministry is healthier than ever before. In fact, she said that UCC is very wise to do this when things are actually
stable in our youth ministry. Most churches don't partner with YMA until their third youth minister in four years has resigned and they don't know where else
to turn. By contrast, we're not trying to rebuild out of ashes but taking what we already have in place at UCC and making it even stronger and more durable.
Thanks in advance for your participation as we begin that process this weekend.
Grace and Peace, Russ
would like to spend the afternoon with us) please e-mail Anna Ross at anna@uccftw.com so we can get a count of
Interns conclude their summer on staff by leading The Search
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Summer Youth Ministry Interns, Nikolee Byers and Whitney Peters, have planned and are leading the worship service at The Search this Sunday, August 9 at 5 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Sunday night will mark the conclusion of their 10 weeks on staff at UCC, so be sure you're present for this special service and let them know how much you appreciate their ministry with youth and the larger church this summer. |
Reception for Carol Elliott this Sunday at 6 p.m.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After two years of service as Assistant Minister for High School Youth, Carol Elliott began working full-time this week at Office Authority (her husband's company that is growing by leaps and bounds). UCC will honor Carol's service with a reception in Fellowship Hall this Sunday night, August 9 at 6 p.m. immediately after The Search. Be sure to stop by to enjoy some ice cream, thank Carol for her ministry, and wish her well in this new endeavor.
Register now for UCC's Back to School Retreat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UCC's
youth who are entering grades 6-12 will kick off a new year together with the
Back-to-School Retreat. Youth and adult
sponsors will meet at UCC at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 14 to travel to Briarwood
Retreat Center in Argyle and return on Sunday, August 16 at 9:45 a.m. for
Sunday school and worship. During the
weekend, the group will spend time growing closer to God and each other through
worship, small groups, prayer, games, and other fellowship-oriented
activities. The event is an excellent
way to bond as youth groups and to get to know adult staff and volunteer
leaders better, setting the stage for a great year of spiritual growth in UCC's
youth ministry. The cost for the retreat
is $95 per person, which includes two nights lodging, four meals, and a
t-shirt. Scholarships are available upon
request.
Click here to download a PDF that includes a letter to parents, youth registration form, adult chaperone form, packing list, and schedule. Remember to turn your registration into the Youth Office by Wednesday, August 13.
