Dear youth and parents,
I'm making final preparations for our CYF Mission Trip to Tennessee, and I'm excited to spend time bonding and serving others for the next week. Be sure to check in on us during the week at www.cyfmissiontrip.org, where you'll find blog posts that tell about what we're doing and photos so you can see for yourself. 29 depart for Tennessee on CYF Mission Trip this Sunday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 A group of 21 high school youth and 8 adults will head to Tennessee this Sunday for the CYF Mission Trip. The group will spend the first half of the week in Memphis, serving at Memphis Interfaith Association, the Memphis Food Bank, and Hope House (a daycare for children affected by HIV/AIDS). During the second half of the week, they will be living and working at Bethany Hills, a Disciple church camp just outside of Nashville. The group will also take time to visit several fun and educational sites, including the National Civil Rights Museum, and will participate in Unified Kingdom Week, an event sponsored by Mississippi Blvd. Christian Church that will bring together youth from different denominational, social, racial, and theological backgrounds to build bridges through worship and service. Everyone is invited to follow the group online during the trip at www.cyfmissiontrip.org.
Reminder to trip participants: Meet at the church at 9 a.m. on Sunday to load up and hit the road.

High school youth assist in JourneyLand for next two Sundays
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 The CYF Sunday school class (grades 9-12) will be assisting in JourneyLand with classes for younger children for the next two Sunday mornings (July 19 and 26). The high school youth and their teachers will be leading the Wilderness Workout class, located in Room 216.
High schoolers are welcome to stop by the 3rd floor for juice and a bagel before class, just be sure to be in Room 216 by 10 a.m. ready to help lead.

Mark your calendar for UCC's Back to School Retreat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UCC's
youth who are entering grades 7-12 will kick off a new year together with the
Back-to-School Retreat next month. Youth and adult
sponsors will meet at UCC at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 14 to travel to Briarwood
Retreat Center in Argyle and return on Sunday, August 16 at 9:45 a.m. for
Sunday school and worship. During the
weekend, the group will spend time growing closer to God and each other through
worship, small groups, prayer, games, and other fellowship-oriented
activities. The event is an excellent
way to bond as youth groups and to get to know adult staff and volunteer
leaders better, setting the stage for a great year of spiritual growth in UCC's
youth ministry. The cost for the retreat
is $95 per person, which includes two nights lodging, four meals, and a
t-shirt. Scholarships are available upon
request. Mark your calendar now, and watch for registration information later this month.

Thanks to Harry Potter volunteers

 Thanks to everyone who made UCC's Harry Potter release party such a success! Fellowship Hall was transformed into a truly magical place, filled with tasty wizard foods, wand duels, a sorting hat, a potion-making station, clever costumes, and lots of great banners, artwork, candles, and fog to set the right mood. Lots of volunteers provided food, decorated tables, transported youth, and helped set up and take down the elaborate decor, and your help is greatly appreciated. Also, be sure to thank Anna, Carol, Nikolee, and Whitney for their creativity and hard work that brought Harry Potter to life here at UCC.
