Helpful information for UCC youth and parents
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
|
Dear youth and parents,
I'm writing to you from the home of my old college roommate in Boston where Sarah and I are staying after spending time in the New Hampshire mountains and on the coast of Maine. It's definitely been nice to vacation in cool weather this time of year! Tomorrow we're walking the Freedom Trail, touring Fenway Park, then taking in a Red Sox game later in the evening. We'll be returning on Saturday, and I hope to see many of you in worship when I'm in the pulpit on Sunday morning. Read on for info on lots of exciting opportunities for youth in the coming weeks, and special thanks to Anna for her creativity in the Harry Potter article.
Grace and Peace, Russ
CYF Mission Trip meeting this Sunday at 7 p.m.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There will be a pre-trip meeting for the CYF Mission Trip to Memphis/Nashville this Sunday at 7 p.m. in Room 207. The meeting is for all trip participants with at least one parent present. At the meeting we will be distributing forms to complete, going over the schedule and packing list, receiving final payments, and answering questions about the trip.
Please note: This is a time change from the summer events postcard that listed the meeting at 12:15 p.m. Due to several scheduling conflicts, we moved the meeting to the evening.

Middle school outing to Main Event on Wednesday, July 8
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UCC's Chi Rho youth (completed grades 6-8) will be playing at
Main Event on Wednesday afternoon, July 8. The group will meet at UCC at 1 p.m. to carpool over and
return around 4:30 p.m. For only $15, each youth gets an hour of bowling, a game of laser tag, $10 worth of arcade tokens, two slices of pizza, and a drink. We must make reservations in advance, so e-mail Sharyn to RSVP at sharyn@uccftw.com by Monday, July 6.
PARENTS: If you
are able to drive please e-mail Sharyn and let her know how many youth you can
transport in your vehicle. We will need several to take youth to Main Event and several to pick up when we finish.
Attention UCC Muggles / Witches / Wizards!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Tuesday, July 14 at 9 p.m. we'll begin UCC's
Harry Potter Party before flying to Rave Ridgmar theatre to view the midnight
showing of Harry Potter and the Half
Blood Prince. The Ridgmar movie
theatre only uses muggle money, so please bring $10 and leave your galleons and knuts at
home. The refreshment cart from the train will be in Fellowship Hall if we get hungry
along with an "Every Flavor Bean" tasting station and a potions class. A panel of judges from Hogwarts will give
prizes to witches and wizards that have the best costumes. Movie tickets and supplies must be purchased in advance, so please send your owl to Sharyn at sharyn@uccftw.com to RSVP by Wednesday, July 8.
In order to keep He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named at bay we need a
few volunteers: witches and wizards who know the secret spells that give a
place that "magical" ambiance (without blowing up the room preferably),
knowledgeable witches and wizards (or Muggles...) that can lead tastings of Bertie
Bott's Every Flavor Beans and potions classes, and first-class wand wielders who
can conjure up Harry Potter-themed snacks.
If you have forgotten some of your favorites, the youth office
will have spells (recipe cards) that you can follow. If you would like to help with the event in any of these ways (or have questions), send your owl to anna@uccftw.com.

Volunteer needed for Sunday school bagel pick-up in July ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Looking for an easy way to help out UCC's youth ministry? You can help feed the hungry masses on Sunday mornings by picking up bagels from Panera and delivering them to the 3rd floor. The bagels are paid for and ready to go each week. You just pick them up at Panera on University between 9 and 9:30 a.m. and drop them off on the table at the top of the stairs on the 3rd floor. If you have to miss a Sunday, don't let that stop you from volunteering -- just let us know which one and we'll make sure it's covered.
If you would like to take care of the bagels for Sundays in July, e-mail Sharyn at sharyn@uccftw.com to volunteer.
