What's New?
Passport to Puget Sound 2011
The program continues in 2011 with more marinas and more prizes. This is a great way to reward boaters travelling around the Puget Sound. Pick up your Passport at the Marina Office. Visit any of the participating marinas between now and December 31, and when you pay for at least one night of guest moorage, you receive a stamp in your Passport. Everyone who gets a bingo will receive a "Passport to Puget Sound" t-shirt. The first 20 boaters to complete their Passport from all 20 marinas will receive a special prize valued at up to $500. Get more information and your Passport at the Marina Office.

Clean and Green Hazardous Material Disposal Program Update Spring cleaning in your plans? Warm spring weather and longer daylight prompts many boaters to prepare for another great boating season. As you do, consider using environmentally friendly methods to dispose of hazardous waste at the South Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 8105 Fifth Avenue South. Get directions here. Hours are Thursday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Visit the website for more information. Dock Clean-up The marina staff will be inspecting the docks on a regular basis and will place an orange tag on any item that needs to be removed by the customer (usually within 7 days). Please help us by properly storing your gear. More details here. |

Safety and Security Matters
Boat Fire Prevention There was a small boat fire at Shilshole recently. The cause was determined to be a faulty shore power connection at the vessel. Within two weeks, two other incidents with similar failures were reported, and fortunately these did not end up causing fires. These incidents are frightful, and serve as good reminders to all vessel owners to inspect their shore power connections as well as all other electrical connections and cords to ensure they are safe, in good shape, and not overheating. Read the Seattle Fire Department Marine Fire Safety brochure, which contains a section called Fire Prevention for Boat Owners. |

Marina Updates
Annual Marina Maintenance
Pile replacements, float repairs and a water system upgrade are a few of the annual maintenance items for Harbor Island Marina in 2011. Some vessels may need to be relocated to improve worker access to the docks: Marina staff will notify customers of relocation needs well in advance. If you have any marina maintenance concerns, please report them to the Marina Office at 787-3006, or at him@portseattle.org.

Policy Reminder
Insurance Policy Reminder
In 2009, we implemented a policy requiring recreational moorage customers to carry a minimum of $300,000 of vessel liability insurance as a condition of moorage at Harbor Island Marina. Commercial moorage customers need a minimum of $1,000,000. Documentation or proof of insurance is kept on file in the Marina Office and must be current and valid at all times.
Please check your insurance expiration date and be sure that you or your insurance company sends us renewal information. Contact us at 787-3006 if you have questions about your insurance documentation.
