Dear Friends,

Winter is here and I am sure you have all heard (and voiced) your share of complaints about the cold weather so far! Without warning, winter shows up like a long lost friend.  Yet, many of us are unprepared for it.  Why is this?  I believe that as humas, we are conditioned to be optimistic - that it will not be as cold this year - no, not this year.

As we all develop more experience in our repsective organziations and companies, we realize that business goes in cycles, as do the seasons.  There are good times and bad, and we need to plan for both scenarios.  We can use the past to plan for the future.  Of course, we cannot predict the future, but we can equip ourselves with tools to be ready for it.

This winter, our family made sure that we had all of our winter coats, mitts, toques, winter tires for the vehicle, blew out the sprinklers, and all of the prepararation that comes along with getting ready for winter.  This applies to our organizations; we need to prepare our people for the cycles of business so they are equipped and ready! Remember: Don't forget about those industry specific cycles that directly affect our businesses the most.

Organizations need leadership to pass this knowledge on and prepare for what lies ahead.  Again, we cannot predict, but we can equip, lead and train others to be aware and bring new ideas on how we can better prepare for what lies ahead.  Some may call this succession planning.  Vision is important, and this vision needs to be shared throughout all of the oraganziation so that those who are new can see that there is a future, and those with experience can help shape a better future for the organization.  So, as winter comes and goes again, lets face it head on- we know its coming, so find a good hill and use that sled!

We hope that you enjoy this months newsletter which begins with lesson 1 on leadership.

essons in Leadership - Part 1

Throughout the next few months, Vince Bruni-Bossio, Strategic Planning Leader at Morris Interactive, will be providing ongoing lessons of leadership. These will be posted regularly on our blog, and occasionally featured here in our Newsletter.

Here is Vince's first lesson on leadership:

I recall my first lesson with my Sensei (teacher) in martial arts.  I had tried many different martial arts, but never really followed through on them. I was sure that this would be no different as I was starting to lose faith in my ability to study a martial art.  Years earlier I had suffered a major injury to my spine and was told that I would never walk.  I did walk but with a limp and tremendous pain in my body.  For this reason I was almost convinced Martial Arts would not be something I could ever hope to do.

SenseiNervously, I met my Sensei in a park in down town Toronto.  I was not use to meeting someone in park as I was expecting to train in a studio or Dojo.  My teacher was waiting for me on a park bench, all smiles as I limped up.  "I am ready to go!" I asserted. "Great," he said, "let's go for a walk."

Identify Your Social Style

What's the key to business success? More than a great product, a unique angle or a winning strategy, successful businesses begin with successful individuals and teams.

We all know people are not as easy to manage as projects. They're complex. Diverse. Prone to conflict. So what's the secret? Equip your people to understand each other's behaviors, and they will be better able to work effectively together, creating a high performance workplace.

Thousands of organizations and millions of people have used SOCIAL STYLE and Versatility to improve workplace performance.

SOCIAL STYLE

SOCIAL STYLE is the world's most effective interpersonal effectiveness model. It is easy to understand and apply which means individuals and organizations can quickly improve productivity simply by understanding the four SOCIAL STYLEs: Driving, Expressive, Amiable and Analytical. In fact, recent independent research found SOCIAL STYLE more effective than Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and DiSC.

Read research findings about the four unique SOCIAL STYLES.

A key element of the SOCIAL STYLE Model is the concept of Versatility.  This is a measurement of ability to work productively with others.  A person's Versatility is a better predictor of business success than their Style.
