Fed up with violent crime in New Orleans?  Well, you're not the only one.  "MURDER THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD," a youth documentary outreach project by Scrub Brush Productions is giving local teens an opportunity to share their perspective on violence, and other important community issues with a national audience.

Murder through the Eyes of a Child

The year-long Outreach Project provides local teens with video production training, equipment, mentors, and new career options in filmmaking.  The producers have launced a 90 day fundraising campaing with KICKSTARTER.ORG to raise $7,000 for this important Project.  If you make a donation you can receive screening tickets, DVDs, film credits, and even hugs from the filmmakers.  Please join us in supporting "Scrub Brush" and spreading the word about this Project.  For more information visit Facebook, MySpace, or the Project website.

It's under our feet and under our fingernails, but what is it? And how did it get there? Inspired by William Bryant Logan's acclaimed book Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth, find out how industrial farming, mining and urban development have led us toward cataclysmic droughts, starvation, floods and climate change. Dirt is a part of everything we eat, drink and breathe. Which is why we should stop treating it like, well...dirt.  (57 min)  View Film Trailer!

Inspired by the best-selling book from Pulitzer-prize winning journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, Half the Sky LIVE celebrates International Women's Day 2010 with musical performances, celebrity commentary and the world premiere of "Woineshet," a powerful short film directed by Academy Award® Winner Marisa Tomei and Lisa Leone. Watch the pages of Half the Sky come to life onscreen as "Woineshet" chronicles the struggles of a poor Ethiopian woman who ultimately triumphs over sexual violence and discrimination.

Half the Sky LIVE is much more than a night at the movies. This one-night-only, interactive event - with appearances by India. Arie; Maria Bello; Diane Birch; Michael Franti; Dr. Helene Gayle (CARE); Angelique Kidjo; Nicholas Kristof; Rachel Mayanja (UN); Marisa Tomei; Sarah, Duchess of York; Sheryl WuDunn and others - will motivate audiences to participate in the growing movement to empower women and girls in the fight against global poverty. ANTENNA
3163 Burgundy Street
New Orleans, LA 70117

Madam TiZo (Mrs. Little Bones) is a documentary portrait of a dynamic peasant healer from Jacmel, Haiti.  The film tells the story of an extraordinary Haitian elder who runs the equivalent of a rural health clinic from her modest thatched roof hut, situated near the Jacmel River.  While taking care of numerous relatives and neighbors who depend upon her, Mrs. Little Bones or Mother Bones as friends know her, simultaneously works as a midwife and leaf doctor for an endless stream of men, women and children who find their way to her yard seeking relief from their maladies.  Humorous, mysterious and insightful, the film offers a rare glimpse into the traditional life of Haitian peasants.  A reality where faith in the spirit world is central to resolving problems and where access to modern medicine is extremely limited.  (64 minutes)

$10 donation at the door.
All donations will benefit Ciné Institute - Haiti's only film school.
Space is limited, please r.s.v.p. at mail@chairitablefilmnetwork.org
