Green Corner - The Eco Button Here is an interesting holiday gift that reminds computer users to save energy - and actually helps them do it. The $17 Eco Button connects to your PC through a USB port. When you take a break and step away from your computer for a few minutes or a few hours, simply press the Eco Button and your computer will go into the most efficient energy saving mode available, S3 standby mode. When you return, press any key on your keyboard and your computer should come back to life where you left off (see caution below). The included Eco Button software will also display how much power, money and carbon units you have saved. Sure, you can do this on your own by tweaking your power settings, but it wouldn't be as much fun.
Caution: For a variety of reasons, not all computers come out of S3 standby mode properly. It is a good idea to save important work before you hit the Eco Button or otherwise place your computer into standby mode.
